Republicans Showing Backbone in Iraq Debate
GOPUSA ^ | November 21, 2005 | Bobby Eberle

From across the country, I continually receive feedback from readers who are frustrated by the apparent lack of political will which seems to afflict so many Republicans in Washington. Using words such as “weak” and “spineless,” many readers express dismay as attack after attack by the Democrats goes unanswered by Republicans. Even worse, are those occasions where, after withstanding a Democratic tongue-lashing, the Republicans’ next move is to actually give in to the demands of the liberal left. The American public is saying, “Enough is enough!”

This brings us to the debate late last week over the situation in Iraq. Democrats, lacking any sort of positive message, went on the attack, blaming President Bush for a “failed” Iraq policy and saying that the future of America is “at risk.” However, rather than just sitting back and taking it, Republicans in the Congress and the White House, fought back strongly and forced the Democrats to “put up or shut up.”

The leadership is one gutless wonder after another.

Now there is an OX and a MORON if I ever saw one. Republicans and a backbone. NOT EVEN LIKELY! Duck and Cover is their motto.

Hate to say it, but you can stick a fork in the GOP because they are done. They waited WAY too long to fire back and even then it was a weak response. The Democratic Lie Machine has already done its damage. This administration has a TERRIBLE media handling group.

The only question left is this: Do we go to Socialism at 40 mph or 90 mph?

I, for one, am sick and tired of this perpetual campaign the Clinton's brought us. I am particularily tired of "he said/he said" journalism that facilitates a propaganda campaign based on lies. After four commissions costing millions we should be able to move on with a common sense of the past. Instead, we are paralyzed by some who have us deliberately stuck on stupid. Does anyone else think that this is emboldening Iran to defy the UN?

In a Friday vote, the House rejected the non-binding resolution for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq, 403-3. The only three votes for the resolution came from Democrats Cynthia McKinney of Georgia, Robert Wexler of Florida, and Jose Serrano of New York.

Looks like even Murtha wouldn't put his money where his mouth is.

Spineless worm.

They are weak and spineless. They don't seem to appreciate the world situation at all. Having failed to stand up firmly and clearly behind the President's WOT policy the Dem/libs have weaseled the administration into a defensive position where it is a daring thing to simply hold the status quo in the war. It is no longer politically possible to increase our efforts against terrorism, if needed, barring a devastating attack on our soil. Even with that it is doubtful now.

The President has some fault in this as well. He did not fulfill his warning that "if you harbor terrorists you will pay a price" (to paraphrase.) He did not back up his warning "if you are not with us you are against us." He didn't put nearly enough effort into continuing the education of the American public as to how widespread and dangerous these terrorists are. I'm afraid he relied on the press for that and on common sense prevailing on public opinion. The MSM are clearly traitors to this country, so are the Dem/libs, and the public are largely mind-numbed robots.

But Republican Senators and Congressmen did not need to wait for the President to make the case. There has been nothing holding them back, apart from political self-interest and fear, from pushing for a more aggressive WOT than the Pres. has pursued.

We (the US) have NOT sent a clear message to terrorists and the world. We have severely crippled their networks. We have killed a LOT of bad guys. We have removed the terrorist stranglehold on Afghanistan, taken Saddam/Bathhists out of Iraq and WILL leave them a self-determining country with the ability to enforce order and defend against 'insurgents.'

But we have not made an unambiguous statement to the world in response to 9/11 and all terrorist attacks against us. Syria stands and thumbs its nose at all of our efforts to date. Iran stands and thumbs its nose at all outside influence and openly threatens Israel and the west. N Korea plays word games with us about peace but still holds all of its threat cards as bargaining chips. Nations throughout the world still tolerate terrorism to some degree or another. From outright support (Syria), to submission (Spain), to appeasement (France, Germany), to weak-willed resistance (Russia).

None of these countries really takes the US/Brit/Allies stand on terrorism seriously. They have no reason to. They now see us as ready to pull back. We made a lot of practical progress but that will be a vacuum in terrorist operations that will be quickly filled when we let up. War is our self-defense against an egregious assault on our humanity. Self-defense is about more than simply having 'good moves.' Effective self-defense has to be a form of communication as well as a practical expedient to immediate security. It has to inform the opponent that "this is the dumbest thing you have ever done." It has to say to them and all bystanders "you don't ever want to be aggressive with me. EVER!"

We have countered the enemies moves and smashed his defenses decisively. We have proved ourselves to be their military and moral superiors by a thousand-fold. But we haven't talked to them. We haven't delivered a clear message. They don't hear what we really want them to hear. All they hear us saying is "we're mad as hell." Well, that is what they wanted.

If we want to defeat terrorism we need to send a different message than that and we need to make sure it is heard. And heard by everybody, not just the terrorists. China is in desperate need of a clear message from us and we can give it to them by answering the terrorists.

Unfortunately the lack of unity in our Republican Congress has led to a more serious lack of unity of American will and our domestic enemies have leveraged that to the point where we may not be able to even defend ourselves much less send a necessary unambiguous message to the world.

Why, oh why, is Syria still inhabitable?

"Does anyone else think that this is emboldening Iran to defy the UN?"

Does anyone think the DemocRats care about how we're perceived by the world? They're still mad as hell because the Repubs made a near clean sweep in the last election. For them, it's all about politics.

Repubs, on the other hand, have offered too little, too late. Instead of sitting on their hands, they should've gone after whatshisname that stole documents from the Pentagon, and shown where and how often the Rats lied.

When I read the local Left-wing newspaper's opinion page, I can see that some people believe everything the paper prints. They're totally brainwashed.

There was no point in trying to combat this stuff this summer when people were not paying attention. Doing it during November sweeps week shows real media savy.

You know what? It wouldn't surprise me to learn that John Kerry is meeting with bin Laden to discuss concessions favoring the Jihadist. That's what he did during the Vietnam war.
