Notice the lack of capitalization. Mary, it is customary when writing about the President of the United States to capitalize "the President."
That's her not-so-subtle way of saying that she doesn't recognize Bush as being the President. I'm just surprised that she didn't take it to the next level and render it as "pResident", as so many at the DUmpster did before they simply started calling him * .
