The cat is finally out of the bag.

By naming a White House insider, Harriet Meirs, to be an Associate Supreme Court Justice, President Bush let the second judicial shoe drop and it fell like a ton of bricks…on his base.

While both conservatives and liberals were expecting a more reliably traditionalist pick, President Bush seems to have chosen loyalty over surety, diversity over experience. Whether the President made this pick from a position of weakness as radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh believes or because he is genuinely convinced Ms. Meirs is the most qualified attorney to take this post, one thing is for sure....

"The right thing"?

What would that be? Not vote for her? Now that would be a interesting. At this point I don't know enough about her to have a strong opinion. I think for GWB this was personal which concerns me some. The timing was right for a true knock down fight in the Senate & I doubt this nominee will generate that type of passion.

Agree with your statement, and for the article, I heard Rush speak about it today, and it did not seem he thought it was a sign of weakness, but skill......

They could go along with the cronyism charge and say that's exactly why the constituttion requires them to approve qualified people to the bench.
