USN - USS Nimitz (Aircraft Carrier), USS Higgins (Destroyer), USS Chaffe (Destroyer), 1 X SSN (Nuclear Submarine), 1 X P3C Orion (Operating from Goa), F 18s (Embarked onboard USS Nimitz)

IN - INS Viraat, INS Mumbai, INS Godavari, INS Shankul (Submarine), INS Aditya (Tanker), TU 142, Dornier Aircraft Fast Attack, Craft Special Forces (MARCOS)

Details - Both groups of ships met at sea on September 25, 2005 at a location 300 nautical miles North West of Goa. The Ships carried out various intermediate level exercises (including joint exercise involving carrier borne aircraft from USS Nimitz and INS Viraat) while proceeding towards Goa. At Goa, there is a harbour phase involving professional lectures, sports and social interaction for the ships participating in the exercise. Both the groups of ships will then proceed to sea for the Main phase of the exercise from September 28, 2005 to October 2, 2005. The ships will return to Goa on October 3, 2005 for debrief and the next day will be the final dispersal.

This is the biggest force projection in the Arabian sea for a very long time, and it the largest IN and USN joint exercise ever. And it comes at a time when India votes against Iran at the UN.

Can we expect the commie media to come up with stories that this exercise is disturbing the marine environment? ROFL
