General MacArthur made his now famous,Duty, Honor,Country, speech at the time he received the Sylvanus Thayer Award for his service to the nation which exemplified the motto of the U.S. Military Academy. He was 82 years old at the time and spoke slowly without notes. The speech, one of America's truly great pieces of oratory, summarized the General's philosophy of life and the guidelines he believed to be the heritage of the American soldier. (click to listen)
