All Americans must tell blacks this truth. It was blacks' moral poverty – not their material poverty – that cost them dearly in New Orleans.

There's so much material out there lately - Rev. Peterson doesn't pull punches. Moral poverty is the cause not only of the ills in NOLA but many others we see before us, not financial poverty.

I agree.
I believe that the implementation of the welfare state has impoverished the souls of poor blacks and poor whites. Money for nothing has led to out of wedlock births and no fatherly influence or responsibility. These things feed on themselves and create more crime, gangs and violence, complicating the problem even more.
That said, I applaud Bill Cosby for taking a stand. Taking responsibility is the first step in correcting the problem. The community needs to stand together, shout out "Enough!", and do what needs to be done.
I believe we're on the verge of a revolution...
Here's to hoping, anyway.

I am of the mind that the President's education initiative is a start towards a better life for the impoverished who have been promoted and passed along with any semblance of proficiency in reading or arithmetic.
