Breaking New on CNN a few minutes ago. A reporter said Sonny Perdue is going to close Georgia's Public Schools Monday and Tuesday of next week to conserve fuel and energy.

Hey...where are you? Are you in Cabarrus County?
Reporting panic gas buying in Barrow County GA...gas stations are packed..long lines.
"Call in sick and take care of him."
Statements like this bother the heck out of me. This seems so easy for some people to say. Some people work for a companies where it's easy to just "call in sick". But others don't. Some people have VERY limited amounts of PTO days. And they are accrued. 1/2 day per 2 weeks. 10 days per year.
Situations like this put working parents in a bind.
No sh*t? Got any suggestions?

Why don't they just shut down the AC? That has to be 90% of their energy usage anyway. Hell, we never had A/C when I went to school anyway and we did fine.

Darn right!
We had to WALK to school -- three-hundred miles, all uphill, barefoot on broken glass. When we got there our "recess" was digging in the salt mines with spoons. Then we'd have to WALK home, three-hundred miles, all uphill, barefoot on broken glass and when we got home our parents would kill us and feed us to the dogs.
Kids today. Sheesh.
Every time I scan through CNN, there's always something negative being reported. It's rather depressing. I understand that bad/unpleasant things are happening all the time, and that the news shouldn't just report the positive and ignore the negative, but CNN is a downer. I equate it to this; bowel movements are not necessarily pleasant to discuss, and they're happening all the time, but CNN is "constantly reporting on the bowel movements of the world". (TM)(C)(my idea)
They didn't announce it at my school until just after the bell to release students, so I'm not sure if the elementary students in our district (who are released earlier) would have had notices to bring home. It's true, however.
My wife is at the Kroger in Alpharetta and the line is around the corner.....

A point, I was making a point! It's all about overcoming adversity.
You mean like the responsible ones who have a job after school and can't ride the bus home?

Thanks!
Ya' mean like the new High School up the street from me whose windows are sealed and can't open?

My sister lives outside Atlanta. She says it's the only state where when an announcement is made that the temp may drop below 40, or snow might be on the way, the stores are immediately cleared out of milk, bread, and Slim Jims.
Also, another problem in Georgia is when it rains, people slow down to 10 mph creating huge traffic problems.
The action by the governor seems to be just another overreaction...Georgia style.
Confirmed...

>"Answer is to shut all high school parking lots to students and ban all cars from campuses for 1hr.before and after school start time. This would really save gas and probably help some kids grow up"<
Don't need to set policy based on 5% of population.
Yeah, ain't they sumpin'

Tell your sister 2 things. We don't care how they do it up north...that's why she fled there.Delta is ready when she is.
Actually she was a Floridian her whole life until her hubby took a job and they relocated to Atlanta.
Florida may not know how to vote, LOL, but we do know how to handle storm prep, and overreaction gets you nowhere.
Watch the gas lines now that the gov has put folks in a panic.
After Katrina, Florida had just a few days of gas, but Jeb said, don't worry, get what you need, but don't take extra, if we have to we'll ration. Nobody panicked and we did fine.
Policy isn't set on 5% of the population...
Most High Schools have a requirement that the student be a senior to get a parking space. If the allocated space for a senior is not used, then the space is run through a lottery for juniors. In fact, the High School up the street from me has only 350 student parking spaces for a school with over 2000 students. For a student to get a space they must maintain a 3.0 grade point average and demonstrate a need (ie:job).
