"Oral Sex Prevalent Among Teens," announced Friday's Washington Post. "A federal survey finds more than half of 15- to 19-year-olds have had oral sex," said the subhead in the Los Angeles Times. "Sex Survey Shocker; Concern as most American teens have had oral sex," cried the Boston Herald.
Across the United Statesand beyond itany newspaper that didn't focus on lesbianism in the sex survey (released last week by the National Center for Health Statistics) declared a crisis of oral sex among teens. Experts and journalists, unwilling to express plain old moral dismay at the idea of their kids doing the deed, cited its health risks. "Oral sex has been associated in clinical studies with several infections, including gonorrhea, syphilis, herpes and the human papillomavirus," observed the Post. Teens "have not been given a strong enough message about the health risks of oral sex," an expert warned the Times. "We need to provide them with information about the public-health consequences," another expert told Time.
If only it were that simple. Talking to your kids about oral sex is the easy part. If you're going to be frank about the most dangerous widespread activity revealed in the survey, you're looking at the wrong end of the digestive tract.

Excellent post, PaulaB. One reason I read things like this is that I know many boys are not being brought up as yours and mine are ... and that boys who are familiar with these things (if not actually practicing them) are around my daughters.
That is the MOST on the money statement I've read. Look, while I made the TIC remark about men needing to read what women read....the consistant, and I mean CONSISTANT theme in all these books is the man treasures the woman. He's crazy about her, protector and willing to die for her. All the other stuff asside. That is what these women are lacking and want.
That is why one reviewer rather snarkily wrote "We read these books to see men behave in a manner we never see them behave in RL."
I agree 100%.
Sometimes my wife reports back the stories she hears at these clucking hen gossip sessions with her girlfriends and it cracks me up. It's always the quiet librarian types who come up with the wildest stuff.
I'm on the same page, too. :(
Walk away from the TV and the monitor and pick up what the woman in your life is reading. Or go hang out on some of the chat forums that discuss these books. Call it what you may; bodice ripper, Housewife porn, romance novel...whatever. THAT is what her real fantasys are.
Feh. Walk away from the TV, sure, but rather than picking up a Harlequin Romance, I think most women would appreciate you hitting the gym instead. That's just my experience, your milage may vary....
Nope,
seriously,
The women I know don't necessarily want hard body...it would be nice, but I still hear complaints of 'buff hubbys who don't have a clue'.....they want a guy who pays attention and listens to what they want.
That is what these books do...seriously, pick one up but....Erm, and it wasn't Harliquin I was referring too ;) I mean, that's soooo kindergarten!
This is a result of our pornified culture.
Nicely put. I agree.
Nicely put. I agree.
Don't ask how I came across this thread...
Just wanted to point out that not ALL women hate it...in fact some like it, for whatever that's worth.
Just for the record I know this because I talk to a LOT of women, (many of whom are way too open about their sex lives to strangers)...not because I've "been with" them.
