I think that the cause of Taiwanese independence is something that the vast majority of Americans can endorse. The only opponents would be some big business interests and admirers of Chinese communism.

I've always been perplexed by the interest in Taiwan. Taiwan is not the only people group in this world that want independence. There is Quebec, Northern Ireland, Chechnya, etc. But Taiwan seem to take center stage. Also, keep in mind that not everyone in Taiwan want independence. There are also groups that favor reunification.

It has been acknowledged that they belong to China already.

The only issue is Taiwan's right to operate as it has with freedom out of the clutches of China.

I think in the long run China will go postal and the two countries will be lobbing missiles both ways.

In the end, a battered, useless and dead Taiwan will be IMO in the hands of China.
