Some guy called in the Stern show this morning with tape of Rush Limbaugh talking about New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin.

Was the racial slur intentional or unintentional?

You be the judge.

I happen to think it was a slip of the tongue, but in a world where a weatherman can be fired for garbling “Martin Luther King Junior Day” into “Martin Luther Kun… King Junior Day” because melding “King” and “Junior” together sounds sorta like a racial slur… well, let’s see what happens.

One of our lefty friends on another website is going nuts over this one but I imagine, if you heard the entire context, it's probably a slip or else CNN and MSNBC and ESPN would be all over it.

Boy, Howard was pretty convinced Rush did it on purpose. It seems obvious to me that the second syllable of "mayor" got transposed with the second syllable of Nagin. Obvious mistake, and he corrected it. Almost like a spoonerism.
