Wow! Thorough List. My thought runs along the line of ... do you suppose 1 in 100 will actually have such a preparedness kit and supplies? More likely 1 in 1000.

Totally excellent idea. Just how are we going to have enough for our block or neighborhood? No way to not share and then it is gone in a day ... It is a corundom. We want to help our fellow man; resulting in none of us have survival supplies. Best to organize a group if possible; maybe 10 or 12.

Jeff was essentially preparing for 3 -5- 7 days with protection, and shelter capabilities. You are more in the nuclear bomb or total power failure (long term) mode, which is smarter and actually necessary, if we are serious about preparedness. The part about others attempting to take it away from the ones that do have it, is the part, I haven't got worked through in my mind. A hideaway is needed.

Maybe I've seen too many dooms day movies to believe that the mass won't overpower the few who are prepared.

All your suggestions are good ... vital even, thanks.

There are people who say ... I would rather die quick than fight for another two weeks or month and die anyway. Family member ... throws me for a loop.

Actually, my intent in the essay and on the lesson on preparedness is to have a one or two year supply of food and necessities at home...the 96 hour kit is if you have to leave home to get out of danger.

In that case, your home may end up being destroyed and if that happens, then having another location, or cache, is a good idea. But it would probably be non-parishable, long term stuff that you didn;t rotate through like you do at home.

Supply and Feed the block? NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Know your limits at all times, AND WATCH YOUR STUFF.

In my case, a bachelor (Ladies?) Christian/Druid sort, in homes around around my house there are ~12 kids and several youngish 30-something and 40-something moms with traveling husbands. I stock plenty for me as I have mentioned (2 years so far, bland dried foods and canned goods) enough adequate meals (2 cups of cooked spiced beans & rice/day + a cup of veggies and 1 cup of cnned fruit/person) and medi-supplies and toys for the kids, even for a survivable nuke blast: "minor sort of" burns, crush, glass injuries to get over the shock until Plan B through Z get established. In such a case, I pray that I would be the supplier for an RN/M.D. who stays in the 'hood as can I do the "no one else is coming" messy first-responder triage work, because at best my skills are incompetent if thorough. We all need help in crisis; an idle mind is the Devils workshop.

Stay productive, not just busy when threatened.

I use the term "random tribes" to mean the groups of survivors who meet up with 2-way judging any small group as to worth for all pulling together, self-defense duties, and sharing the somethings (most people demand equal access to the bounty (others - the ants and grasshoppers) which is sick - if/when a bad actor gets involved - RUN THEM OFF or summary execution as it may be required.

Always be discrete with your weapons.

I have nothing which I am unwilling to give awayto the worthy AS I JUDGE THEM, but I shall use DEADLY FORCE against those who attempt to steal it. We're discussing issues of life and death.
