I don't think you read the full article. Vlasic made a bad long term busness decision. They got huge volume working with WalMart, but lost it's other smaller distributors. They also lost out on the markup from selling cut pickles. When Vlasic asked for concessions, WalMart threatened to drop 'em. This is stated policy. The point was that by taking the WalMart bait of volume sales, Vlasic sold out it's reputaion for quality and are now beholden to stay with the bloodletting or build up consumer confidence in their product and lost distributors...and raise the price. Forget that. Once Vlasic folds, China (or any low producer) will start shipping in to WalMart.

Wake the kids, phone the neighbors, and email the White House. We simply must stop the threat of imported Chinese pickles now, before we lose the olive industry too! George Bush must be notified immediately. Where's Geraldo? Why isn't he covering this?
