International Cindy Sheehan shows Bush is now losing in Iraq and at home

For the past week Cindy Sheehan has camped outside George Bush’s ranch in Texas demanding the opportunity to ask him why her son Casey was sent to die in an illegal and immoral war.

Cindy says of her campaign, “We are gathering people together in this country who believe that this war is a mistake and our troops should come home.

“I know people have been frustrated, either sitting on the fence or apathetically sitting on the sidelines. I know before Casey was killed, I didn’t think that one person could every make a difference in the world. Now I know that isn’t true.

“Not only can one person make a difference, but one person, with millions behind her can make history.

“George Bush, you work for me. I pay your salary. Come out and talk to me. Anyway, I have a feeling you are about to be fired.

“Why should I want one more mother to go through what I’ve gone through because my son is dead?

“The only way he can honour my son’s sacrifice is to bring the rest of the troops home — to make my son’s death count for peace and love, and not war and hatred like he stands for.

“Tell me the truth. You tell me that my son died for oil.

“You tell me that my son died to make your friends rich. You tell me my son died to spread the cancer of Pax Americana, imperialism in the Middle East. You tell me that, you don’t tell me my son died for freedom and democracy.

“I don’t believe Bush’s phoney excuses for the war. I want him to tell me why my son died.

“If he gave the real answer, people in this country would be outraged — if he told people it was to make his buddies rich, that it was about oil.”

Bill Mitchell’s son Mike was killed in Iraq in the same battle with Casey Sheehan. Bill is in Crawford with Cindy. He says, “The death of any child is a devastating event for a parent. A piece of your heart dies when your child dies.

“So I just want to stop this. I don’t want to hear about anybody else dying, American or Iraqi.”

The anti-war movement in the US is gathering pace behind Cindy’s campaign. The huge media focus has pushed the 24 September protests — on the same day as the march in London — to the forefront of people’s minds.

Jason Miller, an anti-war activist from Kansas, said, “Ultimately George Bush bears the responsibility for the death of Casey Sheehan.

“But he is refusing to take just a few minutes out from his five week vacation on his Texas ranch to speak with Casey’s mother.

“He owes her and the rest of America an answer, but this evangelical crusader cannot summon the mettle to meet with her on his own doorstep.

“Following his example from Vietnam, his daughters remain stateside as Bush pontificates on the nobility of the cause for which 2,000 Americans have already died in Iraq.

“Support for the war continues to wane. According to a recent poll conducted by the highly respected, non-partisan Pew Research Centre, 51 percent of Americans believe that Bush deliberately misled the public about whether or not Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction.

“Some 58 percent of Americans now believe that the US will not be able to establish a democratic, stable government in Iraq and only 43 percent of Americans are now predicting a victory in Iraq.

“It is time to start bringing our troops home to safety and to stop the senseless slaughter of Iraqi civilians.

“Tragically, as was the case with Vietnam, there will be no happy ending to the tale of the Iraqi Invasion.

“Suffering, war, terror, and death are the bitter harvest the Iraqis are reaping, and the flag firmly planted in their soil is one of economic servitude to the American Empire.

“On 24 September United for Peace and Justice has organised a non-violent march to the White House to demand the end to the war in Iraq.

“What the proponents of the Iraq invasion do not realise is that peace and justice are inextricably linked.

“By invading and occupying a sovereign nation, America’s leaders have wasted many lives and vast resources, while fuelling antipathy toward the US and creating new terrorists.

“It is time for the United States to become a member of the world community rather than a murderous bully.”

Cindy Sheehan’s protest echoes the actions of Military Families against the War in Britain. It is a sign of hope that the storm against Bush is growing stronger.

Cindy "The Communist Stooge" Sheehan has attracted attention not just of America's Communist elite, but also of the foreign Communist elite.

Freepers, tell all of your friends that Cindy is a Communist Stooge.

"“George Bush, you work for me. I pay your salary."

How can this be?? Did this tool (of the Anti-America knobs of the Left) declare that she would refuse to pay her taxes?

You know, in the beginning I was really giving Ms Sheehan the benefit of the doubt. Having heard the testimonies of several Gold Star families over the past couple of days, I can no longer do so with good conscience.

This woman is a pawn, but it is becoming more and more obvious that she has taken to her "celebrity" with a greater passion than she apparently has for the memory of her son, who was an honest to goodness hero than voluntarily gave his life for a cause that he believed in. May he (Cory Sheehan) rest in peace.

Protestors stay put, Bush supporters move in

Updated: Aug 19, 2005 4:51pm
Despite an offer from a local rancher to relocate Camp Casey, anti-war protest are staying put and President Bush got a little support of his own Friday.

More than 100 people converged on Crawford to support the Commander-In-Chief. They came to Crawford from all over the country, marching with a message for the president: "Cindy Sheehan doesn't speak for all of us," said Bush supporter Debi Bohannon.

Eve Tidwell says, "We have no reason to drop the morale of those troops over there by having someone on the news over and over and over again saying her son died for nothing."

Meanwhile, at Camp Casey, protestors marched, praying for the president, our soldiers and humanity. Some families told stories of their soldiers who died in action. Friday was supposed to be moving day for them, but organizers say a lack of space and media scrutiny ended plans to move to a spot five miles down the road. Instead, they'll use both sites.

Ann Wright says, "We are not moving anywhere. Our demands are not moved, our location is not moved."

That's until August 31st, when the president heads back to Washington.

Cindy Sheehan left Crawford Thursday after her mother suffered a stroke. There's no word on her mother's condition or if Sheehan will return to Crawford before the end of the month.

To me, Cindy is as bad as "Hanoi Jane & John."
To me, Cindy is someone I never want to know.
To me, she's the bottom of the barrel.
To me, Cindy Sheehan is evil...

Cindy Sheehan does not speak for me.

Let me be straight here, while I detest the forces controlling the anti-war movement, I have had a hard time seeing the strategic wisdom of invading Iraq. Iran, in my opinion, would have made a better strategic target in the war on terror.

Here are my foriegn policy reasons for having opposed intervention.

1)Thanks to the Clinton Administration, the American military lacks the manpower it had in 1989.
2)The British found they were unable to control Iraq after World War I and hastily withdrew leaving Prince Faisal as their puppet.
3)I was worried an Islamic regime could come to power through democratic means as almost happened in Algeria.
4)Iraq has a sizeable Catholic population that curried favor under Saddam that I was concerned would be severely persecuted.
5)I was worried that we would face a protracted guerilla conflict led by elements of Saddam's Republican Guard and other elements who didn't exactly like Americans.
6)Nation building as an exercise imposed from without has almost never worked: Bosnia, Somalia, Cambodia, etc.

At the behest of a senior-level GOP operative, whose name I would prefer to keep confidential on this board, I attended a conference with Karl Rove in March 2003, just before the war started. I asked Karl Rove what the administration's contingency plans were once they had toppled Saddam.

The first thing that came to mind was our young men and women getting sniped at by Iraqis and others who hate America. I asked Karl Rove if the administration had contingency plans for a prolonged insurgency.

He told me,"There won't be an insurgency. The Iraqis are an educated people, and they will welcome us a liberators."

Then I asked him if the administration was ready to protect Iraq's Christian minority. Rove then told me he didn't think anything would happen to Iraq's Christians.

Let me be clear, while the Iraq War leaves a sour taste in my mouth and I often question why we are there, I support fighting this war until we can somehow win it.

I don't believe Mr. Bush deliberately misled anyone, except for the possibility of the intelligence community having possibly misled him. The one thing the Left doesn't get is: intelligence is mostly a guessing game based upon the best evidence you have on-hand. The intelligence community has guessed wrongly in almost every major conflict we have been in since World War II.

The CIA's failure to predict the collapse of the Soviet Union was a prime example because it caught many in the intel community of guard.

I met the president on two or three occasions, and he always impressed me with his air of sincerity, and I voted for him twice.

If Mrs. Sheehan has some suggestions on how to withdraw without making the violence in Iraq worse, I am open to suggestions.

I simply fail to see the strategic connection between eliminating the Al-Qaeda's worldwide grasp. Iran would have made a far more logical target. In war there is no substitute for total victory.

Instead, they'll use both sites.

They're not moving, but they'll use both sites.

It will be interesting to see what they do with the new site.

UPDATES ON CINDY SHEEHAN VISIT TO CRAWFORD
Friday, Aug. 19, 2005
(Reverse Time Order — More Recent Entries Toward Top)

1:40 p.m.
Gene Ellis reporting for The Iconoclast

Coordinators at Camp Casey just received a phone call from Cindy Sheehan. Cindy says her mother is going to see some specialists this afternoon. Cindy said that her mother recognized her and squeezed her hand, but could not speak. Cindy is penciled in to return to Crawford on Sunday, if she can.

9:00 a.m.
Deborah Mathews reporting for The Iconoclast

I spoke with Dianne Wilson who told me that there are three tents up at the new campsite—the huge tent (about 60x180); the cooking tent; and Cindy’s tent. She said that there will be a lot of cooking.

There is also a trailer that was donated for Cindy’s use that is there. Moving is still in progress and the coordinators hope to have completed the majority of it by this evening. Moving will stop during the inter-faith meeting to be held at noon.

Wilson mentioned a man who is a friend of Martin Luther King—someone who marched with MLK—will be at the inter-faith meeting today and they are expecting some singers also.

She did say that Joan Baez will be there on Sunday.

She also mentioned that the phone reception at the new site is poor. She wondered if it wasn’t due to the proximity to the President’s ranch.

There is no update yet on the condition of Cindy Sheehan's mom, who suffered a stroke yesterday.

The Iconoclast has processed photos from yesterday's march to the checkpoint near the Bush ranch where letters from mothers wanting an end to war delivered three baskets of letters addressed to Laura Bush. Below are those images.

Thanks JLO!

But somehow I have a hard time believing that the "Camp Casey" so-called protesters do much "praying for the president, the soldiers, and humanity" when the camera is turned off.

I'm rooting for the Cavalry! :o)

Have you checked out the allegations about Cindy at LGF?

Abandoned/deserted her 4 kids, husband when Casey was only at age 7.......

"To go find herself......."

Came back only 4 years ago when Casey was 19?

If this is correct - Cindy Sheehan is no "mother" -
