So a local pol wants to have a town hall forum on a pressing matter of interest. That should be a simple affair, right?
Not if the issue is illegal immigration.
State Senator Bill Morrow wanted to have a forum on the subject in the Carlsbad, Ca Cultural Arts Center. He invited Jim Gilchrist, Minuteman Founder and Congressman Tom Tancredo. The approvals were granted and invitations sent.
Until John Roach, Superintendent of the Carlsbad Unified School District, got cold feet. It seems at other Gilchrist events, the supporters of illegal immigrants have gotten violent. So the natural bureaucratic response is to blame peaceable citizens exercising their right to assemble. Morrow was informed that he would have to pay for authorities to provide security to the tune of $30,000.
This is not the first time that the violent tactics of Gilchrist's opponents have caused San Diego area authorities to shut down his speaking events. In July, the North Coast Republican Club had invited Gilchrist to speak in Encinitas. Again, only days before the event, authorities attempted to tag his hosts with the bill for dealing with thugs on the other side. This group was quoted $15,000.
Undaunted, the group found an alternate location at MCAS Miramar. However, again just before the event, authorities canceled the event. Ultimately, the group was forced to charter buses and drive to the Minutemen event in Campo.
Folks, what's going on here? American citizens are being denied their right to assemble because the supporters of illegal immigrants debate with their fists and marble filled Coke cans. We live in an upside down society when the authorities silence the advocates of the law in order to appease the lawless. Whatever happened to "We the People?"
We need to get out a good crowd when this event finally *does* take place whether a court requires the contract to be enforced or another location is finally found.
Please let any other area Freepers know about this fluid situation.
Here's the forum info posted at moderator Hedgecock's website. There are plans afoot to broadcast the forum on KOGO when it's held but, obviously, nothing is set in stone at this point.

TODAY ON THE RADIO: New developments as Roger plans to moderate a SD County Community Forum on illegal immigration (see below)
COMMUNITY FORUM ON ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION WILL BE HELD!! (count on it)
SAVE THE DATE .(August 11, 2005, 7p-9p) and listen to ROGER on the radio daily for the exact location. The forum to be put on by CA State Senator Bill Morrow will feature ROGER as moderator, Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo as guest and a host of other current or former lawmakers and homeland security experts. The topic the impact of illegal immigration on here at home San Diego County and the rest of the USA.
You know that the Carlsbad Schools Supt nixed the forum at a campus center late last week after pro-illegal alien advocates threatened interruption and perhaps violence. The deal had been sealed with signed documents between Morrows office and the school district back on July 12th.
THE NEWS TODAY is that Bill Morrow is still committed to using the school venue. ROGERS constitutional lawyer, Peter Lepiscopo has written a legal demand letter to the school district and may in fact take the matter to a courthouse in speed of light fashion. It is likely that Peter will contend that the illegal activists are exercising a hecklers veto, which is to stifle a free speech event by causing such disruption so as to preclude the event from happening.
Peter won a case of similar composition when pro-illegal advocates attempted to shut down a Citizen Patrol at Lindbergh Field several years ago a volunteer patrol (long before the Minutemen, folks) that spotted van loads of illegals being transported (by well paid human smugglers) to the airport and then flown to distant USA cities. Crazed illegal activists heckled, the volunteer patrol, an act that local courts deemed illegal and interfered with the volunteers 1st amendment rights. Our patrols continued until the Border Patrol finally decided, gosh, maybe that is our job burp.
TODAY ON THE RADIO ROGER will have details of the legal proceedings to secure the Carlsbad location for our Community Forum on Thursday. There is a plan B and plan C the forum will happen. You need to be angry that efforts are made to kill the forum. You need to be present to show that anger and support for our right to discuss, in public forum, a crisis in our community.
AND WE NEED TO THANK SANTEE MAYOR RANDY VOEPEL who called ROGERS show last Friday and offered a city conference room for the forum. That is likely a last resort because Senator Morrow is holding the forum as a district, event and is determined to hold it at Carlsbad schools or at least within the confines of his district. What, we got one courageous Mayor in all of San Diego County? (well of course Valentine, and be happy youve got ONE)
Thanks. I was never ashamed to be a Carlsbad alum until I heard about this.
