Apple today announced that Nissan, Mazda and Daihatsu in Japan have joined BMW, MINI, smart and Alfa Romeo in Japan to deliver iPod integration with their car stereos for 2006 model lines. "Seamless integration of iPods in cars allows music lovers to enjoy high-quality sound through their car's stereo system, easily access their entire music library and take their music with them everywhere they go," according to a statement released by Apple. "We're delighted to have such a wide variety of car companies in Japan offering iPod integration," said Greg Joswiak, Apple's vice president of Worldwide iPod Product Marketing.
"iPod is the number one digital music player in Japan and more music lovers than ever can now enjoy a seamless iPod music experience in their car."
In addition, an array of after-market solutions are available from Alpine, Clarion, Kenwood and Pioneer for cars that currently do not offer iPod integration.
Time to trade in my '04 Maxima... heh... ;)
Get me a Volkswagon GTI turbo with this addition and I'd never get out of the car.
There already is a "Volkswagen iPod connectivity kit"
Geez, I would hope so - since they already have an attachment that allows you to pick up your IPod on your radio...

Those wireless attachments are getting better, but the quality still sucks compared to a direct connection. I've tried a couple in the past that were full of static, and had to be within a couple inches of the car radio in order to get picked up. Last month I bought a $20 gadget called VRFM7, looks like a cigarette lighter, plugs in the car power socket, has 7 fm channels to select from, and has a 10 foot range. Has a mini-plug connection and cable, works decently with my iPod and my other MP3 players. Not only that, it has a USB port for my flashcards and has control buttons (prev, play/pause, next, and volume) for flashcards. Sound quality is decent with no static, and doesn't fade in/out like other wireless gadgets.
But I'd still prefer a direct wired connection to the car stereo system. You can buy aftermarket car stereos from $100 up that have iPod wired connectivity.

Here's my high-tech "integration". < |:)~
LOL
Nice pic.

Hey, that sounds pretty cool!
So the FM transmitter works pretty well? I'm getting tired of hearing the cassette adapter rattle as I play the iPod in the truck.
Where did you find one for $20? The cheapest I could find was $30.
It turns out I lied! Unconsciously, of course. It was $24 something at Costco. I wish I had a cassette player in my truck, else I would be using an adapter also.
Those new power-port FM transmitters are the best...the antenna is in the power-port and connects directly to the ground plane of the vehicle, which also works perfectly as the antenna. No fade, no "snivvets."
I just tried a test on my vrfm7 wireless transmitter. I hooked up my iPod via USB cable to the USB port, and it charges the iPod and provides power to it! At the same time, I connected the audio cable between the iPod and the vrfm7, and played songs on my car fm stereo. So this thing cost me a fraction of what Griffin and others charge for their iPod wireless-transmitter/power gadgets!
Well, in that case, I hope I'm right. Heh heh.
