So how does it feel to be included in Bernard Goldberg's latest clip job, ''100 People Who Are Screwing Up America"?
''I'm shocked," says MIT biologist Nancy Hopkins, the woman who blew the whistle on Harvard president Lawrence Summers's musings about women's inability to succeed in the ''hard" sciences. Hopkins has three other quotable reactions: (1) ''It's a book?" (2) ''Why is Larry Summers not on the list?" and (3) ''Who is Bernard Goldberg?"
Goldberg is a former CBS correspondent turned literary genius who has managed to summon three best-selling books from the bile of his ruined career. The people who are screwing up America turn out to be the people who supposedly sabotaged Goldberg at CBS: the liberals, the feminists, the entertainment moguls, and so on.
I have a sporting interest in Goldberg's ''book" because a friend of mine, the cartoonist Jeff Danziger, appears at number 35. Goldberg attacks Jeff for publishing an offensive cartoon likening Condoleezza Rice to Butterfly McQueen's character in ''Gone With the Wind."
Green with envy, I phoned Jeff to congratulate him. ''It's quite an honor," he acknowledged. ''In fact, I was just having lunch with number 15." That would be Ted Rall, the dark, brilliant, ''unpatriotic" (read: anti-Iraq; anti-Bush) cartoonist who suggested that former NFL football star Pat Tillman died in vain in a firefight in Afghanistan. (Curiously, Goldberg never mentions that Tillman was killed by US forces.)

" Any reader hoping to find even a tiny glimpse into the real woman behind the political facade will be sorely disappointed.
But women, in particular, will find much to be offended by. To Klein, Clinton's major sins seem to be that she's smart, ambitious, kept her own name, and as a young woman wasn't interested in dressing to attract men like him."

ruined career? Oh, and how are your books (if you have any)
selling, Alex?
If everyone's career could only be as ruined as bernard goldberg's.
Let see:
He got kicked off of a low rated, always-sinking-lower news operation.
He goes on to be correspondent for a very popular cable sports show - a job he loves doing. And he writes three best selling books.
let's see, on amazon.com...alex beam search: (if he's the same one)
Gracefully insane: rank: 173,406
The americans are coming: rank: 1,689,763
Fellow travelers: rank: 3,139,209
Bernard Goldberg's books:
100 people (hardcover): #12 in Books
Bias: rank: 2,788 paperback, 12,554 hardcover
Arrogance: (hardcover only): 13,520
Hmmm, yeah, ruined career indeed.
And neither does this dude mention the conservatives who are listed. Not many, but they're there.
I guess that's all "relative". Liberals are big on relativism, you know. Perhaps "relative to" an earlier time, Goldberg's not doing as well - he's been ruined, so his books only made it in the top 10 a bit, rather than the #1 continuously for 6 mos that they would've before the "ruination"!
Alex Beam? Hateful SOB. Lyin' liberals are soooo upset. Good.
