Just damn.

Couldn't resist. It hasn't broken, has it?

A colleague of mine sent me an email earlier about this. Stay dry and off the roads my friend.

Methinks the municipal government should travel to South Florida and study its drainage canal system. Flooding still occurs down there, though not as bad as in Mumbai.

New Orleans might be a better example.

But I was there in 1995 when 12 inches of rain fell in about six hours or so; the pumping system could handle an inch an hour.

In parts of the city water was upto the car handles.

Near the quarter it was upto to one's knees for a while.

I'll never forget 1. having to wear high waterproof boots over my suit pants to get to my car after a summer storm in Miami and 2. turning down a side street on the way to work and having my car start to float.

I just returned from a 2 week trip
in and around Delhi
where I was hoping to be cooled
by the monsoon rains.

Most of the time
it was hot, sunny and humid.

I guess I went to the wrong place.

How are things? I heard the expressway is completely gone (well landslides near Bhatan tunnel etc.). fantastic tales -- 9 feet deep water at Dharavi etc.

Got some news from Bombay from relatives, FWIW,

an 8 year old girl spent the night in her schoolminibus on the way back to Santa Cruz

another girl spent the night at a friend's house so close to her flat that she could wave to her mom near juhu beach

another spent the night downtown too at TOI offices

a cousin in santa cruz got nailed too, near the old airport.

But there are 14 million stories in that city now....

Good to hear things are getting better.
