Hillary The Uniter? Is It In Her Nature?
ABP ^ | 7/26/05 | ABP

If anyone thinks that Hillary Clinton is not running for President in 2008 is smoking crack - a lot of it. This is especially true after the news that Hillary has been named by the moderate/centrist DLC to head up an initiative to define the party's agenda. Forget for a moment just how bad a shape the Democrats are in that they need an "initiative" to define a "party agenda". Most parties call these things "core beliefs" and no "initiative" is needed to define them.

Be that as it may, it appears that Hillary is using this position to unite the sane Democrats (the DLC folks) and the Moveon/Kos/DU moonbats. The question is, can she succeed? Before answering that question please recall the fable of the Scorpion and the Frog.

Look, we're assuming you either already know the "Scorpion and the Frog" fable, and if you haven't click the link above so we don't have to waste bandwidth in explaining the lesson.

So the big question is whether or not Hillary can hide her "nature" enough to win over the people she needs to (the sane folks who don't subscribe to the moonbat agenda) in order to win the White House. We have to admit, she's not off to a bad start so far. She's avoided falling into the pitfalls of John Kerry and others in nuzzling too close to the fringe left that now runs and funds (see: Soros, George) the Democratic party.

The toughest part of this balancing act is keeping the loonies at bay so they don't scare everyone off, while at the same time keeping their money coming in and getting them out to the polls en masse. What makes Hillary much more able to walk this tightrope better than others is that prior to going into "moderate mode" in the 2000 election (and for the most part ever since) is that up to that point she had spent her lifetime establishing her ultra-liberal bona fides.

I mean, just think about [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hillary_Clinton>her history for a moment - she's a Wellesley radical feminist who was participated in the impeachment of Richard Nixon, kept her maiden name while first lady of Arkansas (before changing it back after Bill lost a reelection), was closely linked for many years with Marian Wright Edelman of the far-left "Children's Defense Fund", proposed a socialistic national health care system, and thinks it "takes a village" to raise a child. So it's not as if the left thinks she's some "Johnny Come Lately" to their causes.

Hillary more than anyone has a much looser rein from the loony-left than many of her Democratic competitors because of this long and well-known history. Thus, she can afford to tack much further to the right in trying to appeal to the moderate voter and convince them that she has changed her spots, something that is an absolute must in order for her to have a prayer.

She's been very smart in having appeared more moderate in the last year or so, as since she's been elected she's been wise enough to keep her head down, and for the most part, only speak out mainly for non-far left causes. Sure, she has a 100% NARAL rating, but is smart enough to pay lip service (and that's all it is) about what she feels is the "tragedy" of abortion (A question - if abortion is not the taking of a life, which is what Clinton believes - what's so "tragic" about it? I mean, what's the difference between vacuuming out a non-living "tissue mass" from the uterus and pulling a tooth - which as far as I know Sen. Clinton has not labeled "tragic").

She's more than willing to take boatloads of Hollywood money, but is smart enough to speak out about a violent video game. She's smart enough to babble on about the national deficit, but thinks that any reduction to Social Security or Medicare systems (which are bankrupting us) is unacceptable.

All of these public pronouncements have allowed her to be in a position to be welcomed by the DLC as someone they want heading up their initiative. So far, the Kos and Moveon.org's of the world are holding their fire, but it's early. But there are rumblings of discontent.

David Sirota, a Democratic consultant who posts indefatigably on his own liberal web log, responded to the news of the "American Dream Initiative" Clinton is leading by warning that Democrats would be doomed to "permanent minority status" if they followed the DLC direction.

"The fact is, the Democratic Party has to make a choice: is it going to continue to follow the DLC, be a wholly-owned subsidiary of Corporate America, and lose elections for the infinite future," he wrote in an e-mail. "Or is it going to go back to its roots of really representing the middle class and standing up for ordinary people's economic rights?"

So the question remains, will Hillary "sting the frog" before getting to the other side of the lake? It would be hard to think that she won't. Her nature is clearly that of a far leftist, and no amount of posturing or hiding her light under a bushel is going to change that.

Especially when their so many people around (including yours truly) who will be there every step of the way to remind everyone about her past. Make no mistake, this facade of "Hillary the Uniter" is just that - a facade.

It's up to all of us to make sure the American public doesn't play the role of the frog and allow her to try and cross the river.

Actually, the real fun in this whole Clinton thing is that Bill thinks he's gonna be co-president. Afterall, he's the source of all her political success, possessing all of the charisma between the two of them.

But I think that Hillary now thinks she has her own political magnetism, and she won't want to share.

Hillary IS a uniter.

She will unite a pair of jackboots with our necks, and she will unite our hard earned money with her ham fist.

This lead rat is a shrew. It pushes others over in order to save itself.

I think these two parasites work only as a unit. Each one has an ability to help cover up the ugliness of the other. (Of course, that only works for sheep.)

Of course, now that they have the power of a mythology about them, the shrew might be able to get a free pass from the sheep.

(Mixing metaphores is a weakness. I am weak!)

"Especially when their [there are] so many people around (including yours truly) who will be there every step of the way to remind everyone about her past."

Shame on you anonymous ABP writer.

We gotta bust our asses in 2006 and 2008 to increase the number of pubbies in Congress.

Then, if she does get elected in 2008 [shudder!] we'll be able to blunt somewhat her country-destroying agenda.

And, hopefully, between then and now President Bush will be able to appoint a couple more conservative justices to the SCOTUS.

Then we'll have the RATS blocked congressionally and (finally!) judicially. I hope that will be enough.

She has certainly united McCain, Lindsey Graham and Newt Ginrich in support of her. I even heard Larry Kudlow say that she is a "great senator" on his tv show. Fred Barnes was praising her so much on the Beltway Boys that even Mort Konracke was laughing at him. I dont know who to trust any more.

The New Jersey Democratic Party renominated its incumbent senator, unopposed, back in '02 knowing he was a crook on the take. When Torricelli fell behind the Republican, Doug Forrester, in the polls late in the campaign, the New Jersey Supreme Court allowed Governor McGreavy to switch to a retired pol who wasn't known for corruption, and the Democrats held the seat.

But there is really no mechanism to do that in a national election; you'd have to do it state by state. Democrats need to be put on notice that if they nominate Hillary they are nominating a crook and we know it:

The Democratic Party disgraces itself when it nominates a Robert Torricelli or a Hillary Clinton. But it isn't appropriate to just stand back and watch them do it, assuming that the public will reject her; all patriotic Americans should say that Hillary does not belong in politics and certainly does not belong on the national ticket of one of the two major parties.

Only in Liberal La-La-land is someone who has made a career of destroying people called a uniter.

Look for her to bypass the legislative process via executive order, a la Paul Begala -"Stroke of the pen, Law of the land, kinda cool..."

It will be a dictatorship, not a republic nor a democracy.
