The shrill lockstep pubs here will cry that by abstaining we will get a dem lib senator. My reply, "There is a difference"?
I just don't get it--why would Santorum vote with the Dems if he's interested in keeping or gaining Republican/conservative votes??

Just so everybody understands, H.R. 2360 is the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act, 2006 not The Department of Homeland Security Hire 1000 Border Guards Act, 2006.
I believe 1 of the key reasons the bill was voted against was the recognition in the bill that a formula given greater funding to areas of the country that would be the most likely targets of terrorists (urban) and less funding to unlikely targets (rural) as proposed in
Title III: Preparedness and Recovery - Makes appropriations for: (1) the Office of State and Local Government Coordination and Preparedness, including for grants to State and local governments for terrorism prevention activities (sets forth allocations for formula-based grants, law enforcement terrorism prevention grants, discretionary grants for use in high-threat, high density urban areas and for port security, trucking industry security, and transit security, and buffer zone protection grants), firefighter assistance grants, and emergency management performance grants;
I think your list details who are the globaists.
We need to contact each of these Senators, particularly if you are in their state, and ask them to explain their vote. I would like to hear what Inhofe would say because Sen. Coburn, who is a real conservative, voted yea. They need to know we are sick of illegal invasion from the south and we are watching their votes on this issue.
For all I know you work for one of the sellouts. When they took the oath it was to defend the constitution. Guess what!! These mobsters are putting their contributors before the safety of the country. Why should they care? Voinvich probably cried like the baby he is when he voted against it.

California's Boxer & Feinstein both voted NAY. These two Dems agree with President Bush.

I am surprised that so many Republicans voted against it, and they will have to explain their vote to their constituents.
McCain voted for it...you know he's running in '08. He also made some very conservative remarks at a Dallas fundraiser. He knows he's got a lot of work to do if he wants the nomination.

Strike all after the first word and insert the following: page 77, line 20, insert ``of which $367,551,000 may be transferred to Customs and Border Protection for hiring an additional 1,000 border agents and for other necessary support activities for such agency; and'' after ``local grants,''.

The amendment (No. 1124), as modified, is as follows:
On page 77, line 20, insert ``of which $367,552,000 may be transferred to Customs and Border Protection for hiring an additional 1,000 border agents and for other necessary support activities for such agency; and'' after ``local grants,''.
Mr. ENSIGN. Mr. President; last year when the Senate was considering the national intelligence reform bill, we adopted several recommendations of the 9/11 Commission.
One of those recommendations was to hire an additional 2,000 new custom and border protection agents each year for the next 5 years.
This body agreed with the recommendation. We agreed that our national security depended on such an investment, and we enacted that recommendation into law.
We are now considering the Homeland Security appropriations bill. The bill that was reported out of committee includes funding for 1,000 new agents in the coming fiscal year. I understand there are problems with training 2,000 agents.
My amendment as modified would provide the Secretary of Homeland Security with the discretion to shift $367 million to hire 2,000 new agents next year. This amendment is fully offset. I rise today to urge the Senate to adopt my amendment so that we can keep the commitment that we made to the American people last year. I thank JOHN MCCAIN for cosponsoring our amendment. Do you think the President cares about the borders? He just gave $2 billion to the hospitals in the Southwest facing bankruptcy for treating criminals.) That's a great way to encourage more illegals that Santa Clause is just across the border to treat you for FREE. $2 billion would go pretty well to protect the borders.
I suspect bankrupt hospitals when shut down won't do much for citizens either. Now I bet they would prefer the hospitals remain open.... don't know about you...
