Republicans seek investigation over outing President Bush's father as former CIA Chief
Republicans leaders in Washington DC today announced that they planned to asked the Justice Department to launch an investigation over the repeated outing of President George W. Bush's father as a former head of the Central Intelligence Agency.
According to their complaint, over 5,000 individuals have knowingly revealed the role former President George H.W. Bush had as the head of the CIA.
Based on figures compiled through several searches of newspaper records, Bush, who was director of the CIA from November 1975 to January 1977, was outed on over 35,000 occasions by more than 5,000 individuals in the press or in Washington politics. Calling the actions of those who would publicly name someone involved in US intelligence services a "moral outrage", Republicans seeking the investigation say their goal is to discourage the callous disregard for the safety of the people who have protected America by working for the CIA and other agencies.
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist(R-TN), who lead the press conference, denied accusations that the call for an investigation was just an effort to get back at Democrats and the press over the attacks against Karl Rove for allegedly outing CIA analyst Valerie Plame. He did concede that the possibility of getting convictions for violating the law, which makes it illegal to knowingly make public the name of a current CIA undercover operative, were slim at best.
"Listen, if the Democrats can accuse Karl Rove of violating the law by not actually giving out the name of a CIA employee who wasn't even an undercover operative anymore, then why not try our own crapshoot?"
Frist said they have yet to decide to call for the resignation of any Congressional Democrats involved in the scandal, and will wait for the results of the investigation.
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-AZ) said that even if the investigation revealed any wrongdoing, he would insist that no Democrat resign from office.
"The only reason you'd call for a political figure to resign over something like this is because they're effective and you can't beat them in an election. Since we're incredibly ineffective and have been handily beaten in Federal elections over the past five years, there's no reason for any of us Democrats to resign."

oops, meant to go in bloggers section...
There's a lot more evidence presented here than in the Rove story.
I just can't believe these Dems--how many times during the course of this administration have they taken some statement or action by an administration official or Republican representative and tried to make it into the crime of the century? And how many more times will we have to go through this before the Dems wake up and realize that they have to win by developing superior ideas, not by bringing up an endless chain of witch hunts?
Don'tcha think that'd be great???
Hay D.G.! Whut's dis aboutchew havin flashbunnyfloods down dere in yer area? Don't git swept away now!!! (grin)
