don't believe his has metastasized and when it comes to pancreatic cancer, they are continuing to make strides. His tumor was encapsulated.

So which is it, cancer, which is by definition malignant--indeed, pancreatic cancer, which is quick and fatal-- or "benign cancer" < /oxymoron>? Can you guys get your stories straight? Which script is it today?

Fantastic journalism.

Literally. It is filled with fantasy.

this kind of journalism can only be done these days at an independent weekly

I will agree that it was done weakly.

If it is indeed an encapsulated 'malignant' tumor of the pancreatic duct, then by deifinition it is not 'pancreatic cancer'. Maybe the story should be revised to 'cancer near the pancreas'. I can see it now... sfxpat... I didn't mean to say pancreatic cancer.. I meant to say 'near the pancreas'.

"Fantastic journalism. Obviously this kind of journalism can only be done these days at an independent weekly, since it doesn't manufacture moral equivalence between Andy and the jackals who accuse him of faking his cancer. The reporter actually did the hard work of seeing for himself. My best to Mr Stephenson for a speedy recovery."

This was my favorite DUmmie comment. I think he should consider the possibilities with that first word he used: "Fantastic".

Let's examine what that word means:

Main Entry: fantastic
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle English fantastic, fantastical, from Middle French & Late Latin; Middle French fantastique, from Late Latin phantasticus, from Greek phantastikos producing mental images, from phantazein to present to the mind — more at FANCY
Date:14th century

1 a : based on fantasy : not real b : conceived or seemingly conceived by unrestrained fancy c : so extreme as to challenge belief : UNBELIEVABLE; broadly : exceedingly large or great
2 : marked by extravagant fantasy or extreme individuality : ECCENTRIC
3 fantastic : EXCELLENT, SUPERLATIVE "a fantastic meal"

Now I know that this fan of Noam Chomsky, Professor of Linguistics at MIT, intended the 3rd definition. But the 1st and 2nd are actually more applicable, considering the facts of the case.

Perhaps next time he might reconsider his choice of words as he attempts to "frame" the issue. Or maybe he is a stealthy troll. Who knows?

My best to Mr Stephenson for a speedy recovery.

And we all here, all along, have wished Andy nothing but good health. I am absolutely serious in saying that. And I have said all along that I think Andy is sick with . . . something. Possibly even, now, some form of cancer. I, along with all of us here, do sincerely wish Andy well physically.

But that doesn't erase all the red flags that have surrounded this whole situation from the get-go. Nor the blatant HYPOCRISY of you verifiability mavens who can't stand a taste of your own medicine.

I think I may just go visit Stanton. Who wants to come along? When we get there we can play baseball. So bring your bat! We could also go pheasant hunting along the way, so bring your shotgun and some birdshot. And then we can take Mr. Grady out for coffee and settle our differences in a civilized manner. Sounds like a fun trip, no?

Oh, dirtybenburch, you have just crossed a very serious line. Not-so-veiled threats of murder will not be taken lightly.

Who is it who are the murderers?

I just don't understand why it bothers so few people over there that the guy's sitting on a quarter mil in equity in his house, yet begs for money all over the internet. And somehow we're all evil because we think that's shabby?

If MY husband were sick and we had no insurance, I'd empty my 401k, I'd refinance the house to take some of the equity out to pay for it. I damn sure wouldn't be asking people living on fixed incomes to pitch in to cover it. I'd sell everything I owned outright & sleep on my sister's couch before I'd let my husband go without emergency medical treatment. I guess his relationship with Termite isn't quite that solid.

I don't think he's per se conning them - I think it just never occurred to him to make any changes in his lifestyle to take care of his own needs. It's someone else's responsibility, always, which is the underlying principle of the whole Democratic Party.

But, as I said at the beginning of all this, money they send Andy is money that's not going to candidates. So that's fine, and we should get out of their way while they continue their self-destruction.

franksolich is usually online by this time. Now I'm getting worried. Especially in light of that IDIOT, DUmmie benburch's death threats.

They keep harping on the "Three Questions"

That's franksolich's term, and I agree that they are important and penetrating questions. I myself see . . .

Four main issues in the Andy Stephenson Situation:
1) Pre-appeal diagnosis of pancreatic cancer
2) Financial need
3) Need for the surgery to be done at JHH
4) Accounting of all funds raised and spent

I don't get it. The nurse practicioner said Andy had cancer. Then the reporter said he/she sat in the hospital room while surgeons/residents discussed his cancer with him. But then the reporter said that the diagnosis is UNCLEAR?? HUH!

You raise the question of Financial Need, one of my "Four Main Issues" (see post 52).

Andy has admitted having: a) with his "spouse," termite, a house appraised at over $400,000, b) stock market earnings, c) gold stashed away, and d) a $70,000 inheritance.

Now you would think that with all that loot, Undie and termite together could at least afford health insurance, and even the $50,000 for the needed life-or-death surgery. And then there is Undie's well-heeled pal, millionaire author Gore Vidal ("GV," as Undie calls him), who could have covered the whole kit-and-kaboodle without batting a mascara'ed eyelash. And of course, Undie could have had this done for free or at low cost at fine, state-of-the-art facilities in the state of Washington.

Of course they COULD have afforded it - but why spend your own money when it's so easy to get it from others?

I think Andy learned that during the BBV thing. Set up a website with a link to your paypal account, ask for donations and the money rolls in from the impulse givers, ten bucks here, twenty bucks there. Andy & Co. got all their buds to put links to his paypal account on their websites, too.

I've done some impulse giving myself - a lot of blogs have links to their paypals, and if it's well written & I'm in the mood, yeah, I'll buy the guy a beer for the entertainment. It's only a couple of bucks, but if 3 people a day like your blog enough to buy you a beer, that's an extra $100 in your wallet every month.

I know that was 'toungue in cheek' but there are many instances of people posting that they donated hundreds of dollars at a time. And there are the 'multiple donators' who may be donating $5 or $10 at a time, but are doing it on an ongoing basis. The money fountain has not shut off. Actually there are DUers who are donating almost out of spite for FR, Scamdy.com and SilenceoftheScams.

"Or perhaps franksolich did see this thread and is now busy contacting the authorities to get an arrest warrant on DUmmie benburch"

I hope he is. benburch throws threats around like candy. I would like to see him get what he deserves.

Somebody posted that the ex-wife of a friend of his had donated her past two child support checks to Andy, and he wondered should he tell his friend. I've known too many single moms struggling to make ends meet to be very happy about a guy who's sitting on a pile of cash, but will take food literally out of the mouths of children rather than get up off any of his own money.
