This thread answers a lot of questions I have about DU...

As for Tom Cruise, putting aside that I hate to give any credit to anyone dopey enough to fall for a scam put out by a writer who ADMITTED he wanted to invent a religion to make millions, I was actually pleased with Cruise's rant, even though he was wrong with much of it. As someone who's seen kids on the stuff they put them on, my opinions about all this stuff, ADD, etc. would take too long to put down. But I am having a ton of fun listening to the drug and psychotherapy victims, uh users whining about someone daring to offer ANY word of criticism.

There is no strength,responsibility,resolve,or even a remote pragmatic view of the reality of living and how to deal with the disappointments and setbacks.

Just a great way to put it. We seem to have a lot of people who think there is a place called Happiness, and when you get there you are always feeling joy. It would explain the left's hatred of anyone who accomplishes anything in life--they sit and seethe, thinking Those People are having the Good Life 24/7.

Amazing! What did we ever do when every mothers son was not a victim of something? After reading this it is miracle the human race has survived. Think about it.........if we didn't have all these miracle drugs, seat belts, bike helmets, safety glass, air bags, floatation devices, safety glasses, hard hats, safety harnesses, 5 mph bumpers, head rests, ergonomic keyboards............ we would have all gone the way of the dinosaur in my lifetime. We couldn't possibly survive without their learned, cram it down our throats, advice now could we?

To tell you the truth, I can't bring myself to mock the DUmmies too much for this one. Sure, they're pathetic and miserable, but hey, mental illness is nothing to sneeze at.

OK I agree that mocking someone for illness is wrong. Here's the thing though. Somehow these poor paranoid loonies opinions are accepted as equally valid to those of us that keep the country going with our jobs, taxes, and other sacrifices.

Your book and cd should stress the fact that they are BETTER than anti-depressants. Laughing at the DUmmies is a cure for all but the most severe depression.

Same here (the Wellbutrin/ADD/Depression)...

For me, its like wearing glasses, and my responsibility to make sure I function as a productive member of the universe.

Plus, it saves lives (other than my own ;) )

At least one FReeper who takes them also... I take Wellbutrin for "Attention Deficit Disorder and/or depression" to quote the official diagnosis.

The difference is, you'll probably never post threads on a message board gleefully comparing your meds with other FReepers. :-)

I don't see anything wrong with taking antidepressants or other similar meds. (I was on them for a while, also.) But the difference here is that I don't think FReepers brag about it. We just do what we have to do to function, that's all. These people casually talk about meds the way they would talk about new clothes.

Good point. I have an aunt, who used to brag to my mother about how her whole family was in therapy. Let's just say, these days, she's divorced and my mother is the sister with grandchildren.

I do talk about taking Wellbutrin, but it's usually in context (threads like this, for example) or poking fun at myself.
