Governor Angers Fishermen (CA)
The California High School Conservative ^ | June 6, 2005 | Conservative Schooler

OK, I don't have a story to go with this, but I'll try to paraphrase from the report I heard on KTKZ today:

As you probably know, every angler in the State of California is supposed to buy a fishing license of about $30 annually to fish in the state. This money is supposed to go to make improvements in the fisheries.

However, in recent years the money has instead been dumped into the General Fund to be spent on everything from education to transportation. The Department of Fish and Game asked the Schwarzenegger administration to give the money back to the fisheries, however the administration refused saying the money was needed for other things.

Now here is a radical idea governor: Fees should be spent on what they are intended for!

I have no problems with Texas Parks and Wildlife except the new slot size on speckled trout.

Do they rob fishing license fees in Texas?

If all of the money California anglers paid in license fees actually went to the fisheries we would have some world-class fisheries in California.

Well for starters, if you want the straight poop on Arnold, don't listen to KTKZ -- especially in the morning. Eric Hogue is the Governor's star-struck lapdog.

I do approve of most of what Arnold does. Some things, like this, I disagree about.

Eric does a good job most of the time. Sometimes I think he gets a bit carried away about supporting Arnold, but he is certainly better than Mark Williams who never saw a thing Arnold did that he liked.

California fishing! Most streams and rivers are closed to fishing. Or are catch and release only on special days. If you want to sit around a reservoir and drink beer, fine, but you might as well give your fly rod to the California Fishing Museum.

Save your money and move to a real state.

I don't listen to KTKZ, but if you can find more things to agree with than to disagree, I think you've been getting a limited or biased input of news. Do you agree with most of these?

*Bonds?
*Highest increase in spending in California History?
*Stem-Cell Research?
*Sierra Nevada Conservancy?
*Weak spending cap initiative (in lieu of a real cap as proposed by Campbell, et al)?
*Gun Bans?
*After-School-Programs?
*Global Warming goals?
*Hydrogen Highway?
*Solar Roof subsidies?
*Appointment of leftists in his administration (Tammminen, Reiss, Henning, etc.)
*Endorsement of Open Primaries?
*Non-endorsement of Racial Privacy initiatives?
*Non-endorsement of the Save 187 campaign?
*Continuing to dance with Cedillo on drivers licenses?

I could go on.

Please list those items with which you approve and the few(?) you find unacceptable. You and I must be reading from separate news sources. The fishing license issue is just more of the same, but hardly an offense that hits the top of the radar.

Let's see what you forgot:

*No tax increases or proposals to raise taxes
*Rescinding of the Car tax Increase
*Vetoing Legislation to give Divers Licenses to Illegal immigrants
*Passing Worker's Compensation Reform
*Opposing Prop. 66 (A move that probably kept the measure from passing)
*Support Merit Pay for Teachers
*Champion redistricting reform
*Support teacher tenure reform
*Support two spending caps
*Stand up to Unions

I could go on. Put the point is, while I disagree with some of what he has done, Arnold has been right on most of the big issues. He is certainly better than Gray Davis.

I do have to disagree with your list.

*He HAS increased taxes and fees. Through raiding local funds he has also forced tax increases at local levels.

*He did NOT veto drivers licenses for illegal immigrants. In fact, the method in which he negotiated with Cedillo has kept this alive and undermined the referendum that was ready to move forward.

*Workers comp is NOT reformed. Premiums increased 250-1000%; Arnold's actions resulted in a 26% decrease to those inflated numbers. Do the math.

*His media blitzes regarding redistricting, teacher tenure, have, to this point, have been only talk. We will see if he actually calls a special election.

*The only spending "cap" he has supported is the one that he MAY put on the ballot, which also results in 15 billion more in debt (even though he said he would cut up credit cards). By selecting this option, he also rejected a true cap authored by Campbell, et al.

*Bullying the Unions publicly may be inspiring, but it has yet to result in anything positive legislatively.

So, out of your list, I find that he negotiated with Cedillo to withdraw licenses (temporarily) and supported Proposition 66. You find these to be "the big issues????"

Not hardly. You are failing to see the big picture here.
