Welcome to RINO-World, the new Rove Majority! Ain't it grand? < /sarc >
You will be told you "have nowhere else to go" and be bombarded with scare threats about Hillary Clinton.
Ask yourself what does the GOP stand for anymore? Smaller government? More individual responsibility? Stronger national security? More tax cuts? Sanctity of life? Sanctity of marriage? What CAN we count on all Republicans to stand in favor of and act like it is their commitment to achieve?
I grow less certain with each year of the new century. I don't think the problem is reflected in the *base* as much as I do the people who we elect, perhaps no better illustrated than in how Specter was re-elected last year. The Party thwarted a good conservative to stick with an incumbent that does them few favors.
This is a very good post but I suspect you will not be happy with the responses you get. We're the majority party that still thinks its the minority.
Doe, a deer.. a female deer.
You reflect the opinion of many.
The Republicans are no longer the party of conservatives. They are leftists --the RATs are worse, but the Republicans are not far behind.
Constitutionalists and conservatives have no party and have no voice anymore. All we have left are Reagan memories and what very old history books tell us about our Founding Fathers (new history books refer to them as evil).
If we are to reclaim the nation, it will have to be by revolt. There is no party that represents limited government and Constitutional principles.
This blog by Pershing reminds me of that quotation from the Shakeaspear play (forget which one) which starts out:
"Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow,
Keeps in this petty pace from day to day,
To the last syllable of recorded time..."
and ends with:
"It is a tale told by an idiot,
Full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing."
In other words, this Pershing column is mindless dribble.
At the very least, it parrots the same thing countless self-annointed experts have ranted about since politics was first invented some four thousand years ago.
Now, that's not to absolve the Republican Party of faults.
But if someone feels that strongly that THEY are privy to the absolute political truth,
Then by golly don't stand around and whine.
Get in there and run for office, or donate your magic money to the person with whom you believe.
Bottom line: I am sick and tired of this same 'ol rant that "the GOP is a bunch of woosies so I am gonna quit."
Even with its moderates, the Republicans are light years ahead of the leftist Democratic Party and if given half a chance, will cause a net improvement in the economy and American culture.
Not sure about McCain being a war hero..
Audie Murphy was a war hero.
The Bush family talks a good game, but they will break your heart.
The Bush-bots are going to freak out when he nominates a Souter-type to replace O'conner. Rhenquist will be a rock-ribbed conservative, but Bush will not overturn Roe vs Wade because they think it will hurt the party. That's why Bush the elder stuck Souter in there.
My cynicism will be justified on this subject.
We have a demoncat party and a republican party.
Thats the only two options we are given.
It would be nice to have a third party called the conservitive party. But i wont hold my breath.
Hey, you do know FreeRepublic is not a blog, don't you?
You can reply on any thread you want to . . . including this one.
What does it mean to be a Republican?
No idea, deer.
Every single troll is an ENEMY OF THE REPUBLIC!
