Yup, there are some in the party, and alot of the "base", who would oppose him because of that issue. Cheney, because of his lesbian daughter, and because he is not in favor of stopping gay marriages via constitutional amendment, is seen as pro-gay, to alot of Republicans, unfortunately.

This has got to be one of the most absurd stances the base has. Just because you're not for something doesn't mean your against it. It's not like Cheney or his daughter are trying to shove the gay issue down our throats. The whole family has kept their private family situation to themselves. As hard as she worked for the campaign, his daughter didn't even appear on stage with the rest of the families at the convention and she certainly had earned the right to be there. She works quietly and tirelessly behind the scenes while the family gets bashed by both sides.

Hmmm...where are all the state's rights people on this issue? If MY state and CA can pass marriage amendments (which in both cases require "blue" voters to pass) then other states certainly can, too. Granted the courts are a problem, but so is the amendment...at least the way it's currently stated. My biggest problem with it is that every amendment we have GRANTS rights...they affirm the rights of the people and the states. As written now, the amendment will never be ratified by states on either coast and at least a few will be needed to achieve a majority.

You know, madam, this "gay issue" illustrates why the central figure in what the Grand DUmbo "Skinner" calls "the Andy situation" damages the "gay cause" more than helps it.

Out here on the prairies, we don't pay much attention to the sexual proclivities of people; we're laid back, mellow, live-and-let-live.

As long is it doesn't involve children, dead bodies, or animals, well, generally it's not a topic of conversation or subject of interest.

In 2000, the gay lobby managed to get the matter of "gay marriage" on the ballot here in Nebraska. At first it was no big deal, and probably would have passed.....

.....except.....

.....except.....

.....the gay lobbies in New York and San Francisco decided to come here to laid-back, mellow, indulgent Nebraska, and make an "issue" of it.

Now, Nebraskans tend to be pretty tolerant people, but we don't like stuffed-shirts from New York and California telling us what to do (we have definitely learned that lesson with the new football coach).

So there was an immediate, and strong, backlash.

The deal was, we had all these professional gays from the Big Apple and the Big Hole, these lavender-and-lilac lads, these bouncy boys, bobbing up-and-down, all through the state, earrings jangling, bracelets jiggling, bell-bottoms flapping, tip-toeing and tuliping and traisping and cavorting and frolicking and prancing all over the state.

These guys made normal average ordinary gays in Nebraska look bad.

What was worse, with all these painted faces, bright colors, shiny accoutrements jingling-and-jangling, they spooked the cattle.

Now, spooked cattle are a frightening thing to see, and people get injured, sometimes killed, trying to calm down spooked cattle.

The nancy-pansy boys (no slur against regular gays here) never learned the NUMBER ONE RULE of politics in Nebraska--don't do anything to spook the cattle.

It's not like Cheney or his daughter are trying to shove the gay issue down our throats.

...not to mention the fact that Cheney never brought up the issue of his daughter being gay on his own. Kerry and Edwards both brought it up because they were SURE that if the Republican base "found out" that Cheney has a <*gasp*> gay daughter, he would become a fatally flawed candidate and the Bush/Cheney ticket would go down in flames. Didn't work, did it?
