FAITH VS ENFORCEMENT
"The constitutional freedom of religion [is] the most inalienable and sacred of all human rights." - Jefferson.
As deliberation took place over John Pauls successor, "play cards" were distributed amongst the general media whereupon similar targets were addressed over and over. Cardinal Ratzinger had a Nazi affiliation in his past and his views were not affected by the changing generations. Rather than adapting to the times, he insisted upon a more conservative approach, one which never deviates from that of centuries ago.
How many liberals are truly irritated by the appointment of Pope Benedict? Why? The liberals have literally attacked him, how did he react? What does the Pope instill in them to create the reactions?
For Catholics, the Pope is the highest link to God. A great deal of his work consists of the spreading the word of Christ. This is out of focus for the liberals, they not only do not understand the ability for believers to accept and practice, but they fear the overriding threats such beliefs will have on issues imposed by them. This is very important, unlike the Pope who preaches, liberals enforce.
As Jefferson said, the constitutional freedom to religion was part of the foundation of America, it was critical in shaping America into what it is today. Lack of faith would open the gates to not only unwanted issues, but lack of incentive for overall quality of life. The absolute horror of Terri opened the door to this possible reality.
