"He who does not learn from history is doomed to repeat it."
The Germans were a great people betrayed and destroyed by their willingness to follow vainglorious and insane leaders. I blame the strain of irrational romanticism in the German character for this disastrous wrong turn. I say this as someone who is of half German ancestry with a strong if imperfect affection for German culture.
Churchill saved the world. He stood up to nearly impossible odds and won. Victory in Europe belongs to England... and Churchill.
I'm a little annoyed at current German politics. I saw a poll that claimed that the majority of Germans think that what the Israeli's are doing today is the same as what the Germans did in the Holocaust. Is this ignorance? Moral Relativism? Or just plain denial?
Wish it never happened but was unavoidable once HITLER invaded Poland.
Was everything such simple.
Yes. After Hitler crybabied for annexation of the Sudentland which he got in 1938, he INVADED the rest of Czechoslovia a few months later despite promises not to do so. Not satisfied with that, in August 1939, after making sure he would find no opposition from the Soviets and agreeing to split up Poland with the Russians, he flat out invaded Poland WITHOUT provocation. Or do you actually believe that bogus story about Polish soldiers taking over a German radio station?
Have there been certain interests of the Allies?
Rephrase question. Do not understand.
What was the role of the UK?
Stood up ALONE in Europe to the Germans while France captitulated and the Soviet Union cooperated with the Germans.
Was Germany the biggest danger or was it Russia?
First Germany was the biggest danger. Then Russia. And remember, please don't start major wars again. You learn that lesson then all will be okay.
It was a great tragedy for everyone concerned.
Was everything such simple.
Absolutely. The Nazis, the Soviets and the Japanese were intent on evil. The US and the UK responded to aggressive attacks from these evil governments.
Have there been certain interests of the Allies?
The Allies had two "interests": peace and freedom.
What was the role of the UK?
It was twofold: an appeaser under Chamberlain, a defender of freedom under Churchill.
Was Germany the biggest danger or was it Russia?
Germany.
What is your point of view regarding Germany today?
That it is a weak country that has surrendered its Christian past to secularism and its dignity and autonomy to the EU.
How do you consider the current politics of Germany?
I consider it scandalous that Germany is content to be a spectator when the world is locked in a struggle between freedom and Islamic barbarism.
Feelings?
We should have took out the Russians and Chinese shortly after the Germans and Japs were defeated while we had the atomic advantage. It would have actually saved alot of Polish, Russian, Chinese, Tibetan, Czech, Vietnamese, Romanian, Lithuaian, Laoian, Korean, (enter country that was dissemated by communism here) lives and prevented alot of suffering looking back. Oh, and MacArthur was right...the U.S. should've strung up every commie bastard post WWII, starting with roosevelt's VP A. Hiss.
Yes, ok, I think most of the Germans have the same understanding about that chapter today. But please consider the bad circumstances: The Versailler contract. Just to mention one.
I think many people feel chased by jewish people today for their history and they are just sick of it. There are hundred paes of Hitler in our history books but a very few of the rest. TV and the papers a full of stories of the holcaust and so on. I mean remembering is correct and necessary. Especially to avoid such thing in the future. But it is too much here. And i think for some Germans the conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians is a way of "paying back" for that "threatment". You know what I mean?
Well, my intention is to answer every post here but with this one I have problems. Or do you mean the problems of the US Army in the Iraq compared with the ones in Vietnam?
Not sure what you mean by Israeli-palestinian conflict being payback.
I do not agree on the statement that the reasons for WWII have been that simple.
I think there was some kind of commercial war between the UK and Germany and the UK was seeking for a solution. So for my opinion just talking about freedom is to simple.
Do not misunderstood. I do not agree on what happened in the past. Especially I do not understand the force against the Jews.
But more important is to face the future now. So I agree on your statement regarding the EU and the weakness and I think we are going to break Europe with our own immigration politics - we import the Islam to all European contries at the moment. This is going to be TNT withtin the next ten years.
Caught one in my troll trap!
I mean they are thinking like: Hey, you (the Jews) are doing things like shooting Palestinian kids who are only equipped with stones and you are going ahead with tanks and choppers. They are "happy" about finding a "mistake" on their side. That´s what I mean with "payback".
Of course this is a very simple view and I bet the first time a German tastes the flavour of a bomb placed by a religious fanatic or so he will be radically change his mind regarding home/country protection.
Please try to post something which is really worth to reply on. I am interested in a diskussion and I am interessted to learn something about the US point of view to several things. Or is your next suggestion to forward me to demacraticunderground.com as I dared to mention problems of teh army in Iraq? Sorry guy, but if I wasn´t a little bit pro US I wouldn´t make any post here, believe me.
Don't come here and lie to us. You're clearly interested only in painting the US as the bad guy, and making excuses for German behavior in WW2.
I remember being in the Tetons and meeting up with a German tourist, who asked me something to the effect of, "This country, the US, is so big. Why fight with Germany?" I remembered the Jews and Pearl Harbor and Hitler and the Blitz and Dunkirk and El Alamein and Sicily, and decided the guy just didn't get it.
Here we are again, oddly enough, but many people don't want to fight for their wooden shoes, or tea and crumpets or croissants, or apple pie anymore, or so it seems. So it appears they'll all be eating couscous or rice and beans or lo mein.
We left the Vietnamese high and dry. We won the battles and lost the war because of lack of interest back home, along with outright cowardice and traitorism. These people depended on our loyalty and dedication, and we ran, making them pay with their lives.
The difference between them and Iraq is that now, if we leave too soon, we'll pay with our lives, as will Europe.
It was not my intention to compare Vietnam with Iraq. It was just a kind of cyniscm as a reaction of a silly posting from one user here.
