Harry Reid, the U.S. Senate Democratic leader, says the time has come for a pivotal and partisan brawl -- even though he isn't sure it can be won. Reid says, he's ready to bring the Senate to a virtual standstill. He has privately told individual Republicans he doesn’t intend to block votes on any U.S. Supreme Court nominees except in extreme cases. Well, they're all extreme to the Democrats, so that's no assurance at all.Minority Leader Reid showed his willingness to work with the Republican majority when his first move as top Democrat in the Senate was to consolidate staff operations under his control while establishing a press operation for more aggressive attacks on Republicans.
Harry Reid is truly a stupid partisan. Recently, at Del Sol High School in Las Vegas, Reid said of President Bush, "I think this guy is a loser." He didn't stop there and added "I think President Bush is doing a bad job. I think he's a bad president." And this while President Bush was in Europe, breaking a long tradition of not speaking ill of the Commander in Chief while he was abroad.
Reid thinks badly of a lot of people. Of the five most-disputed judicial nominees, Reid said, "I think they're bad people." He said of California Supreme Court Justice Janice Rogers Brown, "She is a woman who wants to take us back to the Civil War days" and "she's the worst of the worst."
Reid has called Utah Republican Senator Orrin Hatch a hypocrite and told The Salt Lake Tribune editorial board, ""I can't imagine how Orrin Hatch can keep a straight face. I don't know how, within the framework of intellectual honesty, he can say the things he does."
During a March 3 interview with Judy Woodruff on CNN's "Inside Politics," Reid denounced Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan's policies and said he is "one of the biggest political hacks we have here in Washington."
In an interview with NBC's Tim Russert, Reid said that he considered Justice Clarence Thomas to be "an embarrassment to the Supreme Court" and "I think that his opinions are poorly written. I just don't think that he's done a good job as a Supreme Court justice."
