I use to frequent Lucianne.com several times a day before discovering Free Republic. I was banned from the site a couple of years ago for a reason I thought was pretty silly. I directed a disparaging comment towards the staff for what I thought was a very insensitive comment they added under a headline on a "Must Read" article. The next day I found that I was unable to log on.
My question, has anyone else noticed that activity and new articles posted on that site have slowed down a great deal? I like Lucianne Goldberg but I have a feeling her editors and "PC" interns have done serious damage to what used to be an excellent news forum.
I was booted years ago because of a pro-choice moderator ... my defense (active, always) of the right to live for the little unborn ones was not popular with LG or the mods. Are we moving in a similar direction here at FR?
Ping
I,too was banned for a silly (IMHO) reason in 2004 after being a poster there for years. I found my new home at FR and will never look back,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Actually, I go there a lot, but it has never been as lively as FreeRepublic. I'll pop in there for a quick look-see and spend the rest of the day at FR.
I enjoy the picture of the day and Shortcuts -- helps me get the must-reads out of the way early in the day. But for in-depth discussion, there is no place like Free Republic. Lucianne's policy of no article being more than one day old, no searches, no discussions, makes for a very dry site -- might as well be Drudge! And the constant lecturing by the Admin staff really makes me tired.
After saying all that, I hope I don't get banned here!
"we all owe her a huge vote of thanks for her efforts in impeaching Clinton"
I could not agree more. I wish she were on TV more often. She's pretty smart and a tough cookie. Her son is a great writer too. I wonder just how involved she is with Ldot.
I have no clue on earth why they banned me from the prissy, fastidious, quasi-totalitarian Lucianne.com.
Well she seems to have coined the word FReeper, which will one day be in dictionaries. I don't know if she quit FR in hopes of making money on her own site, or because she thought we were low class.
But sites that absolutely prohibit discussion (i.e., flame wars) are boring, and will never have much life.
I visit Lucianne several times a day.
Love her humor and joy.
We conservatives owe her a lot.
Me too. But I found their posting rules about not addressing others to be very rigid. Once I found FR I havent spent much time there other than to look at the picture of the day.
Lucy envisioned a core group of enlightened posters who added substance to the articles posted, much like FR in 1997-1998 or alt.current-events.clinton.whitewater without the chatter.
That's impossible in today's world. Chatter is a natural part of forum life.
I'm surprised to see people don't like it.
I check it out a few times a day.
I didn't notice the volume of articles being small, seems ok to me. I don't read comments anymore but it's a nice quick summary of articles interesting to conservatives.
It's just not interesting anymore. Sometimes they seem to have too many restrictions. I find this place much more interesting.
Never understood posting rules over there. I used to visit every day and posted a few times. I guess I made someone unhappy as suddenly I couldn't post. Then I found Free Republic. I thought her site was very good during 911, even if I wasn't allowed to post anymore. Hope their traffic rates get better as I consider all conservative web sites a great service to the public.
I asked for a password to post, but new requests are put on a wait list.
I'm new to these sites as of last October. I have not yet received any response from that site about a password. I used to visit there daily, but, it looks to me like the articles there are already posted here. Also, it isn't much fun to just lurk on a site, if you have something you would like to add to the discussion.
There's very little discussion on some of those threads.
I started participating on discussion forums back in 1997. One thing I know is that when you start banning lots of people and restricting comments, the posts drop off.
That's when I made the escape to this significantly better venue.
I too was banned just for a slight response to another poster, not even by name. At first it was great. Pictues, fun people, even get togethers. One couple even got married. I find them boring anymore. FR is just great! Lucianne missed the boat. I wonder if she will admit it.
Great photos to share!
Too many rules, too easy to get banned, and it is nearly impossible to follow a conversation in a thread. In fact, the rules pretty much discourage the posters from conversing with one another. It is more like a blog that has a bunch of random replies.
