Walk A Mile in My Moccasins (EcoDisaster on our southern border)
Various ^ | April 12, 2005 | B58Hustler and HiJinx

Posted on 04/14/2005 10:03:07 AM PDT by HiJinx

FReeper trteamer had asked on a thread last week (4/4/05) if there were some way to go out on the ‘net and find pictures of the trash that illegal aliens leave behind as they pass through our border counties.  I told him that I would check into that.  As I was looking, another FReeper, B58 Hustler, picked up on the topic and put together what follows.

He did the research; he found pictures at such places as Colonel Ben Anderson’s web site, DesertInvasion.com, KrisEggle.org, and local news outlets in Southern Arizona; and he put them into what follows.  Much of the text reflects his thoughts vis-à-vis that contingent of FReepers who oppose our attempt to publicize our plight along the border.

Now, you too can see what we live with on a day-to-day basis, why people like my co-worker Inga are afraid to go to sleep at night, why my co-worker Dallas never leaves the house unarmed, and why my County Sheriff has gone to Congress begging for help.

“Walk a Mile in My Moccasins”

As I read through the posts on the border threads, I have come to recognize that many of these posts are consistently coming from people who can be profiled into three specific groups. The first group is comprised of people who fully understand and have probably seen what is happening to those living and traveling along the southern Arizona border. A number of these folks actually live in the area.

The second group is comprised of interested people who say that the Minuteman Project has called the plight of those living and traveling along the southern border to their attention. In many of their posts the people in this group state support for the Minuteman Project, ask what is it really like along the border, or want to know if it is really as bad as they are now hearing.

And then there is the third group. This group is basically four or five people who repeatedly interject their biased and purpose driven comments into the border threads. While the intent of the first and second group is to learn, it is the obvious sole intent of the third group to be extremely disruptive. These disruptive posters obviously do not live in southern Arizona like so many do who make supporting comments to these border threads. It is only logical to therefore assume that if these disruptive posters do not live along the southern Arizona border, then they have no first hand knowledge of what has happened, and is happening along the southern Arizona border.

If ever the saying, "walk a mile in my moccasins" needs to apply to anyone, it must now apply to these disruptive posters. Consequently, it is to you, the disruptive posters, that I primarily address this message.

I start by saying that if there were ever possibly some way to fly all illegal aliens “over” Arizona and parachute them into your neighborhoods and have those illegal aliens walk through, camp in, trash up, leave human feces and used Kotex in your back yards, then you could possibly find an easy way to “walk a mile in my moccasins.” But since the illegal aliens cannot be parachuted into your neighborhoods, jump over or bypass Arizona by any other means and because you continue to call for these illegal aliens to come to you, it is therefore important for me to share something with you. It is important to me that you see what has happened to my neighborhood while these illegal Aliens are passing through on their way to maintain your yards, lawns, swimming pools and do everything else you so desperately want them to do for slave labor wages.

For you to have a better understanding of what is happening in southern Arizona and for you to experience what southern Arizona looks like today, I invite you to come and spend some time along the border to really see what is going on. No, the invitation does not include expenses for your travel and stay, but it does include a free trail guide (me) who will give you the opportunity to drive along the back trails and walk along the same paths I have moved across for the last 30 years. These are the same back trails and paths that the illegal aliens now take. And you can speak with the people whose back yards these illegal aliens cross. They are the people whose land the illegal aliens have trashed and the people who have now grown to literally fear for their lives on a daily, and especially nightly, basis. Yep, I’m asking you to walk the walk before you continue to talk the talk. That makes sense to me and it should make sense to you.

I have lived where you are living, from California across to Florida, up to New Hampshire and then back across the country. But you have not lived where I am now living. I therefore feel qualified to comment about the conditions and the things going on in your neighborhoods, while I feel that you are not qualified to comment on the conditions and the happenings in my neighborhood. To become better able to do that, you need to now come with me and “walk a mile in my moccasins.”

Those living and traveling along the southern Arizona border have become conditioned to viewing these offensive substances, materials and elements because they are constantly found in our back yards. And if you think that these pictures look like open spaces and are not pictures of our back yards, then you fail to realize that some here have mighty “big” back yards. Sometimes as big as 800 acres and the owners of those back yards travel across their entire back yards daily.

If seeing this trash doesn’t tear your heart out and if it does not bring tears to your eyes to see two lovely grandmothers having to walk through this “largest open pit garbage dump in America” to get their daily exercise, then I must conclude that your life is totally void of compassion.

Take a walk through Arizona's remote deserts, parks and ranches, and what might you see? Empty food cans, water bottles, soiled diapers, human feces, castoff clothing, abandoned cars, trampled vegetation and bushes burned for campfires -- all the residue of a ceaseless flow of thousands of illegal immigrants trying to get into the United States. "Environmental degradation has become among the migration trend's most visible consequences," Rotstein writes. "A few years ago, there were 45 abandoned cars on the Buenos Aires refuge near Sasabe, and enough trash that a volunteer couple filled 723 large bags with 18,000 pounds of garbage over two months in 2002." Dumping of Trash, Waste, Endemic in State with Flood of Illegal Immigration

Empty sardine cans, discarded clothing, and soiled diapers litter the ground, sheets of used toilet paper hang from bushes alongside desert trails. These are the trails used by countless illegal immigrants crossing from Mexico into the United States in Arizona. Illegals from Mexico and other Latin American countries have left the trails of refuse over the years. They have marred scenic ranches, beautiful desert borderlands, foothills, forests and wildlife sanctuaries. Beau McClure, special assistant with the Bureau of Land Management for international programs, calls the problem “Very severe. It is near crisis conditions in many areas." Environmental activists ignore trails of human waste and trash

See how the areas in the pictures looked BIAC (Before Illegal Aliens Crossings).

As you view the beautiful pictures below,
I call upon you to remember the words and music from Pete Seeger’s song

WHERE HAVE ALL THE FLOWERS GONE
(I have paraphrased the words to give proper application here)

Where have all the flowers gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the flowers gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the flowers gone?
Illegal aliens have trampled every one
When will we ever learn?
When will we ever learn?

Where have all the environmentalists gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the environmentalist gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the environmentalist gone
No one knows but shame on every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

God Bless America. God Bless Arizona.

for they know not what they are about to receive –

Thanks to both of you for putting this up. I'll lend you some extra credibility, because I've been down there and I've seen it. Every American ought to see it.

Now, what we need to do is find some pictures of the damaged ranch fences and what they do to the livestock.

"Then print it out and mail copies to the CDC, the EPA, the Sierra Club, and any other "environmental" groups you can think of. Those pig sties created by illegal aliens need national attention."

These groups would be stampeding Washington if this was happening anywhere else and for any other reason. Taking note of this will require them to acknowledge illegal immigration as a problem.

Excellent! FR should organize some means of having a U-Haul filled with this stuff and shipped/dumped to the steps of the Capitol in D.C. (or the White House).

Not a U-Haul. But a big stinky garbage truck with protest signs on it. It would be wonderful to see on national news a huge pile of stinky, fly-ridden criminal invader trash dumped at the front gate of the White House. Whoever drives the truck should expect to be thrown on the ground at gunpoint on national TV. He would need to be a border area resident who personally gathered some of the trash and had a good story to tell about the damage that illegal aliens have personally caused him and his family.

The truck would have stopped at city after city on the way there and small rallies would be have held with displays educating people about the problems with the border. A national spokesman and other associated organizations would hit all the radio and TV talk shows leading up to the big delivery. Political theater at its finest.

Do you think, even then, that the President would get the message that we're FED UP with this mess?

If it was happening in Crawford, Texas President Bush would have already called out the 3rd Infantry Division to put a stop to it. Hmmm...Crawford would be a good stop on the way to Washington, DC with our stinky illegal alien garbage delivery caravan. Maybe a smaller truck could make a delivery there too....

Maybe a quicker route would be to take it to every regional Representative/Senators' house/office, and then over to the Western White House's front gate in Crawford.

Why is such a fine President completely missing the boat (and the people's desires) on this issue??

Maybe a cross country caravan of big trucks carrying part of the garbage with big signs saying "This is just a fraction of the garbage on our southern border."

That would get someone's attention!

From your link above....I was right about the environmentalists.

As DumpsterDiver says, this may be a way to get more exposure about this problem. These people must be squirming over this.

Dumping of Trash, Waste, Endemic in State with Flood of Illegal Immigration

Bitter Division for Sierra Club on Immigration
By Felicity Barringer, The New York Times, March 16, 2004
Immigration is creating a bitter leadership struggle in the Sierra Club, a 112-year-old organization of 750,000 members that works to bring conservation and pollution issues to public attention.
Barringer writes that the Sierra Club is struggling over "whether to advocate tough immigration restrictions as a way to control environmental damage that has been associated with rapid population growth."
U.S. Census Bureau figures show that nearly 40 percent of the U.S. population growth over the last 10 years has been a result of direct immigration; many of the immigrants have settled in California, the Sierra Club's home base.

The Sierra Club has pretty much kept its hypocritical mouth shut about illegal immigration and its impact on the environment. They don't want to rock any boats.

Sierra Club Revisits Issue of Immigration
April 12, 2005

A year after a bitter election for the board of the Sierra Club that focused on candidates' stands on immigration, the issue is now before the membership, this time as a ballot initiative.

Neither side said it expected a victory for the proposal, which would commit the club to support "lower limits on migration to the United States to address our nation's rapid population growth and its harmful effects on the domestic and global environment."

Last year, the debate was tainted with allusions to racism and character assassination, and although a taste of that vitriol was evident in interviews with the chief combatants, the comments and the contest this year have a pro-forma feel.

There are a lot of articles here at Google.

Kolbe, Bush Amnesty Proposals Protested in Sierra Vista
By Todd Evans

Cong. Jim Kolbe (R-AZ), whose amnesty/guest worker legislation closely parallels President Bush's amnesty proposal, found a surprise at his town hall meeting in Sierra Vista this past week. Awaiting his arrival were a dozen protestors who disagree with the Kolbe-McCain-Flake guest worker legislation and Bush's Temporary Worker Program proposals which would provide amnesty for illegal aliens.

Among the protestors' signs were some that read, "No Amnesty! No Rewards!", "Terrorists Love Open Borders", and "Deport Kolbe."

Protestors displayed several bags of trash gathered from a campsite in a wash near two of the protestor's homes. The trash was laid out on both sides of the sidewalk leading to the entry of the city hall where the town hall meeting was held. Items in the trash included clothing, backpacks, spoiled food, cans and wrappers bearing Mexican labels, toiletries, medication and a number of black ski masks.

At the door to city hall was a full-sized, stuffed Border Patrol agent who was kneeling, slumped over a bench, with a large knife in its back which bore the labels, "Bush Amnesty" and "Kolbe Amnesty."

Upon his arrival, Rep. Kolbe was met with chants and catcalls from the protestors. One protestor used a bullhorn. Chants included, "No Amnesty! No Rewards!", "Hey, hey! Ho, ho! Illegal aliens have got to go!", and "No Bush Amnesty! No Kolbe Amnesty! No McCain Amnesty! No Amnesty!" Kolbe approached the building using an alternate sidewalk in order to avoid acknowledging the trash. When the protestors noticed him and aimed their comments his direction, Kolbe simply forced a chuckle and walked on. Kolbe did not acknowledge the Border Patrol agent with the large "Kolbe Amnesty" knife in his back placed at the entrance of the building.

The town hall meeting was standing room only with more than 100 people crowding the room and spilling out into a hallway. The meeting was repeatedly interrupted by loud and angry audience reaction to Kolbe's explanations of his and Bush's amnesty proposals. Two attendees voluntarily ejected themselves from the meeting after they stood up and loudly denounced Kolbe's amnesty plans.

After Kolbe explained the supposed economic benefits his guest worker plan would bring to employers in other parts of the country, among other things unrelated to people in his district, Kolbe was loudly interrupted with the comment, "There isn't a person in this room who will benefit from your plan! You represent us, the people in your district =- not the rest of the United States, not the economy! You represent us! Act like it!"

After the meeting, Kolbe was met again by angry protestors who loudly denounced his amnesty legislation. He refused to acknowledge their presence as he and his aides walked quickly to their cars.

Protestors later delivered the illegal alien trash to Kolbe's Sierra Vista office, leaving it leaning up against the office door. Along with the trash was a printed list of the names of 174 people from all around the country who claimed responsibility for the last time bags of illegal alien trash were left on Kolbe's doorstep. All trash was bagged in "Cochise County UDA Cleanup" bags provided by the county. UDA stands for "Undocumented Alien," and the bags were purchased by the county after receiving a $4 million grant from the federal government to clean up the thousands of illegal alien campsites, lay-up points, drop points, and open latrines that pervade the desert in the county. The county provides bags so that citizens can do the clean up themselves. The county does not allow the citizens to dump the garbage in the county's dumps free of charge and instead charges them to dump there.
