TOO BAD JEB BUSH DOESN'T KNOW REAGAN'S SECRET by Dr. R. L. Hymers, Jr.
March 29, 2005
I know something right now that Jeb Bush doesn't know. I know he made the biggest political blunder of his life when he decided not to intervene and save Terri Schiavo from starving. How can it be that I, a pastor of an inner-city church, thousands of miles from Florida, have knowledge about this that Jeb doesn't have? Simple - I know an old Baptist deacon, and Jeb doesn't.
My old friend is named "Mack." He fought in World War II. When I was 13, he took me to a Baptist church for the first time. I was the boy next door. I became a Baptist preacher as a result of going to church with Mack and his family back in the fifties. His wife died a few years ago and Mack moved back to Vernon, Texas. I call him once a week just to chat. He turned 88 last Friday.
Mack is my weather vane. Whatever he says is what the American people think - in their hearts. He's way more accurate than any CBS poll, because the wording of polls often confuses people. You never get a confused answer from Mack. "Nope, Jeb Bush was wrong. He'll never be President if he doesn't find some way to save that girl." And that is exactly what will happen, because Mack is never wrong - ever - when it comes to knowing what the average American thinks deep down inside.
That's how I know something Jeb Bush doesn't know. See, Jeb has great strategists, genius politicos, the finest advisors money can buy. But he doesn't have Mack - or anybody like him.
That was President Reagan's secret, you know. When Reagan was a young man, he spent a few hours every week in a barber shop in Dixon, Illinois. With an actor's imagination, Reagan was later able to transport himself back to that Dixon barber shop. And in his mind he would ask the old men, Baptist deacons, Sunday School superintendents, gas station owners, druggists - the old men of that small town in the heartland - what they thought he should do. "Fellas, what do you think I ought to do about Terri Schiavo?" Reagan would have asked the old men in the barber shop of his actor's vision. They never let him down - not on Grenada, not on Libya, not on Reykjavik, never! No one ever quite figured out how he always seemed to know what the people in the heart of America wanted him to do. That was Reagan's secret.
But, you see, Jeb Bush was raised a little too high-toned to hang around some old men at a barber shop. He probably had his dad's hair stylist give him a trim now and then. Trust me, a hair stylist is not the same as an old-time barber, and George H. W. Bush, his dad, is not the same as the old men in Reagan's boyhood barber shop. Been in Washington too long. Remember, his dad was the son of a Senator.
I wish Jeb Bush knew a couple of old Southern Baptist deacons - men in their mid-eighties - World War II guys. Just a couple of old Baptist deacons, retired druggists, or gas station owners. There must be a lot of old guys like that up in Jacksonville. He could call Jerry Vines, pastor of First Baptist there. He could say, "Dr. Vines, I need a couple of real old retired deacons, the older the better. Need 'em just to talk things over once in a while."
It must be old men, remember. Women have a way of being swayed by the sentiment of a twisted poll or slanted news story.
What would those old men tell him? Why, I already know, because I talked to my friend Mack, in Vernon, Texas today. The old men would tell him, "Jeb, get in there and save that girl. Do whatever it takes." That's what a World War II guy would tell Jeb Bush. And if he listened to an old man like that, he'd be a front-runner for President in 2008. The old man would not be fooled by polls. He'd tell Jeb Bush what the Americans really think in their hearts. They'd say, "Yep, that's the way Grandpa would do it. I'm glad there's still somebody around like him." And the red states would turn to crimson - for Jeb.
If he listens to guys like Karl Rove and the "poll watchers" you can kiss him goodbye. He will never again play a major role in politics. Too bad Jeb doesn't know Reagan's secret. That's why he won't send in the National Guard - as Reagan (and Mack) would. And that's why, unlike Reagan, he will never be President.

I'm getting so tired of this in-fighting among us. This is getting us nowhere!!! Are we all really so far apart in this? No one has supported the Bushes (even going back to their father) more than I have. I still have a Bush sign at my place of business, I still drive around with a Bush sticker on my vehicle. There is no one in politics today that I like better. They are undoubtably the best out there, right now. We Republicans are our worst enemy & we shouldn't make that mistake again.
Having said that, I will have to admit that Jeb has let me down on this one. I blame Shiavo/Greer/Felos the MOST. They have evil intentions, I fear. But I blame everyone else that could possibly stop this that hasn't. You tell me Jeb has been working on this case for years???????
WTH??? They've had years to figure this out & still cannot get past this one judge??? Maybe it's time to start thinking outside of the box - the box doesn't seem to be working.
Maybe I'm a wacky pro-lifer (you betcha), but I have held my nose & voted before, for Republicans that I knew were paying lip service to me about abortion. But I do agree that this has hurt any future political plans for both of the Bushes. BUT - both of them are serving their last terms in their respective positions - AND - I think that is all the more reason they should stick to their guns & rescue Terri - DO WHATEVER IT TAKES.
There are defining moments in history that change the course & this could be one of them. We need a leader who will follow out the strength of his/her convictions. Not someone who doesn't want to rock the boat. Are you telling me the best minds in this country cannot figure this one out to save this young woman's life???
If that is true, it is already over. We might as well call ourselves Europe.
" Unchecked illegal immigration, destroying our expensive, ineffective national security. - Junior Bush legacy
The death of Terri Schiavo - Baby Bush legacy.
A judicial oligarcy - A Bush family legacy.
A judicial oligarcy - A legacy of allowing Democrats to put in halfwits.
To answeer your points on alleged abuse, here is a copy of some useful information I got that comes from available records. It is convincing to me that there was no abuse.
http://home.comcast.net/~trinity_tx/attacktheory.htm
Note: I have no love for Michael Schiavo. I see many things I would have done differently. For all I know, the autopsy could come back and show real evidence of abuse.
But, in the meantime, in the interest of fairness, and for the sake of those who care about separating rumor from reality, I offer this for consideration...
Terri Schiavo's chemical/electrolyte profile, her infertility and lack of cycles, her weight loss (~250 lbs at age 18 to between 110-120 when she collapsed - her parents via Wolfson), fatigue, and even "brittle" bones are all consistent with bulimia.
Cite : Terri Schiavo's discharge summary,
and the Wolfson Report to Jeb Bush)
But, in spite of the fact that that is by far the most consistent explanation for both the cause of her cardiac arrest, and the actual bone scan and follow-up x-ray findings, an "attack theory" has been promoted, and aggressively pushed, by means of equivocation and exaggeration.
Not only does the attack theory create inconsistencies and unanswered questions, such as,
-how did her potassium get so "severely" and acutely low,
-explain her chemical profile, (malnourishment, low calcium, hypopotassemia)
-why did he call for help at that hour,
-why not pretend to be resuscitating her,
-why no outward signs of such a knocking up,
-why insist on cremating her when it means an autopsy must be done,
-why ask for an investigation into the cause of her collapse by defensive medical doctors? (malpractice trial) And why would not those doctors be speaking up now?
and finally,
Why wasn't there an "attack theory" brought up at the malpractice trial, or by the Schiavos' insurance companies, if there were such "evidence" of abuse?
...but it is based on 4 deceptions:
1. The exaggeration of the words of her co-worker and friend, Jackie Rhodes, who gave this testimony at the 2000 trial:
terrisfight.org
She is often quoted as saying things such as, she was "worried about her going home that night" "begged her not to go home" "come over so you will be safe". But she did not say that in her testimony, even with leading questions and, as pointed out in cross exam, having embellished her story significantly since her deposition 2 weeks before. She went from saying Terri and Michael were trying to have a baby, to saying Terri and she were talking about divorce and getting an apartment together.
2. Equivocating and deceptively alarmist statements that, e.g., "we know she had no "heart attack" (MI) - made while avoiding clarification that she did have cardiac arrest. (see discharge summary)
MI can be diagnosed by measuring cardiac enzymes, because they rise due to the destruction of heart muscle from the blockage that occurs. It can happen concurrent with, but is a whole different thing from, cardiac arrest - a beating/rhythm problem, which happens to be 50% more likely to occur if potassium is as low as a 3.5. Terri's was a 2.0.
Her records clearly stated that she was in Cardiac Arrest. Lately, presumably since the ruse is more difficult to conceal, at least Dr Hammesfahr has switched in some interviews to claiming that not even cardiac arrest occurred, since "her heart didn't stop" -
it didn't need to "stop".
See section from the Merck manual below for details.
3. Dr. Hammesfahr and Pat Anderson started the charade in 2002 about Terri's neck being "suspiciously rigid". But the fact is, her medical discharge summary says she had a stiff neck "and all other muscles in her body were stiff" - which is "normal" under those circumstances. It is a common condition of neck spasticity called opisthotonus - a contraction of the neck muscles, which goes along with her global spasticity and seizures caused by the anoxic brain injury. 2002transcripts.htm
As a classic example of this equivocation, read this section of a transcript which is typical of other interviews with this man and other Schindler family representatives:
If 30 million Americans had gotten off their butts & had started standing in shopping center parking lots & along major thoroughfares in every town & city in America soliciting bottles of water for Terri, the outcome might have been different. But that wasn't convenient. It is just so much easier to sit on their butts in front of a computer monitor and Blame Bush.
This is the 'tip of the iceberg' of what Terri and her family are up against.
Heres where Terri Schiavo Insurance money went:
These funds, the result of a malpractice suit, were meant solely to provide for Terri Schiavos care and rehabilitation.

Atty. Gwyneth Stanley - $10,668.05
Atty. Deborah Bushnell - $65,607.00
Atty. Steve Nilson - $7,404.95
Atty. Pacarek - $1,500.00
Atty. Richard Pearse (GAL) - $4,511.95

1st Union/South Trust Bank $55,459.85
Michael Schiavo - $10,929.95
Total: $545,852.34
Neglect and abuse complaints is that Michael Schiavo:
* Has not allowed therapy or rehabilitation since late 1992.
* Has prevented swallowing tests or swallowing therapy since 1993.
* Ordered caretakers not to clean Terri's teeth since 1995, resulting in removal of five teeth in April 2004.
* Placed Terri in hospice in 2000, despite the fact she is not terminally ill.
* Refuses to allow Terri to leave her room. She has not been outside since 2000.
* Ordered doctors not to treat Terri when she had a life threatening infection in 1993 and 1995.
HEALTHFUL DRINKS WITH WARM MEALS SINCE THE ORDER-TO-MURDER-AN-INVALID BY JUDGE GREER

Sort of but not quite. The premise of this article and the statement I wrote are about politicians doing the right thing even when it is unpopular.
My point is that Greer has issued orders that are simply illegal, and beyond his authority. He has no power to order the executive branch (in this case DCF) NOT to uphold the laws they are charged with enforcing. He also has no power to mobilize the executive branch (in this case, law enforcement) to block the executive powers from these duties. And it does not appear, at this point to what I have been able to ascertain, that Judge Greer has the power to order that a citizen cannot be fed orally (that oral feeding falls under his power to end 'life-support.')
The thing to do is not storm the hospice. It would be to show up at the Sheriff's office, explain to him that he is following illegal orders, and that, unless he orders his men to stand down he will be arrested for intereference with the legal duties of executive branch of the state of Florida. If he refuses, you arrest him and call in his next-in-command and make the same explanation.
But is he more electable than Hillary?
And if not him, who on the Republican side is?
Hilary is quietly amassing points with Democrats (and perhaps some moderates) by laying low on this one, while Gov. Bush has left Republicans fighting amongst themselves.
After this issue has been resolved, Hillary will take a stand.
Then, she'll attack Jeb from all sides, inviting disgruntled Republicans to join in the sniping.
Will Jeb be able to withstand attacks from both sides? I don't know. But perhaps the more important question is, who (else) will be able to stand up with conviction and strength against the masses, media, and money that Hillary is starting to assemble as she embarks on her goal of taking over the White House?
The actions are what speak. They had full power to act, and the president -- the commander in chief -- would not have sent the 101st Airborne against his own brother.
And "it is that which comes out of the mouth that defiles a man....murders, threatenings..."
Those deceived by this are deceived by the spiritual forces of darkness in high places. This is Satan's work and those supporting it have aligned with the dark side.
And the executive branch has no power to order a judicial outcome they desire. It is not illegal. If it was, then the appellate courts would have overturned Greer. The law, from what I can see, has been appropriately applied. Greer is not making law, he basically established who speaks for Terri and who is charged with her care. That also include discontinuation of care. What you want is to have the State (federal and state level) take over that function and not family. Sounds very Stalinistic to me.
A law that commands the murder of an innocent is no law. It is illegal. There is a duty to save her to those that have the ability and both Jeb and Dubya have that ability.
Care does not include murder.
Yes, that is your premise. But not the article's premise.
Read again:
he won't send in the National Guard - as Reagan (and Mack) would. And that's why, unlike Reagan, he will never be President.
Therefore, since Jeb won't sent in the troops, he could never be elected president.
Judges on the bench who sustained this tragedy include:
Rehnquist, Thomas, Scalia, USSC
Birch and other conservatives on the 11th District
At least Wilson, a Clinton apointee on the 11th District, dissented from the judicial homicide.
Any of these judges could have written a dissent, and why, even if they were outvoted by the full court, but have chosen to remain silent.
Don't forget that it was the Schindlers that have been pulling Michael into court. Regardless of ones views on the overall case, MS legal expenses are a result of being sued, not MS going to the court to get permission to remove the feeding tube. It was the parents who went to court to stop Michael.
Not just to G-d! For Jeb and Dubya are standing by not only the innoncent bloodshed of one -- but of many thousands -- for breakdown in the Judicial system is an unavoidable result of their present inaction. That breakdown will then result in the harm to many thousands.
The "no good deed goes unpunished" crowd at FR are mindless zealots. Or maybe I should give them the benefit of the doubt and suggest mere temporary insanity. Either way, they are ruining FR and doing their best to ruin the conservative movement by fracturing the GOP.
Hogwash. Elected officials swear to uphold the Constitution--even when that requires them to recognize and overcome judicial tyranny. Courts that cannot apply common sense and equity to the written law but that at other times find penumbras and emanations everywhere they look are nothing but unelected politicians in robes.
When such courts order death to an innocent, it is the duty and responsibility of elected officials to challenge such courts and their rulings even to the point of using force to prevent what is murder.
