Imus Vows Revenge on WSJ, Author

Don Imus ridiculed Wall Street Journal reporter Robert Frank as "a punk," this morning, said the WSJ had impugned both he and New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, declared that the paper "would never hear the end" of his ire for slamming his charity ranch in a page-one story Thursday, and vowed to renew his contract for 5 more years just so he could continue his barrage against the WSJ and Frank … and then he got mad.

"They can't maliciously malign me or this ranch…I'm not gonna put up with it," said the I-Man, who has spoken with famous attorney David Boies about the matter. "I am the wrong person to malign."

"It’s never gonna end,” he continued, suggesting he would take $1 in salary over the five-year contract extension with his syndicator, Infinity radio, just to be able to continue extracting revenge on the Journal day after day.

Imus is also steamed because after hinting the Imus Ranch may have misspent funds in a page one report Thursday, the Journal buried the follow-up story today, which says Spitzer has now cleared the top-10 radio host of any wrongdoing.

Another problem is, in the follow-up, Frank insinuates that Spitzer let Imus off the hook because he supports the Democrat Spitzer's gubernatorial bid in 2006. Frank wrote today: "In its letter last night, the attorney general's office didn't specify why it had ended the inquiry.” But later in the article, he added, "On the air, Mr. Imus … has endorsed Mr. Spitzer's run for New York governor in the 2006 elections.” Imus blasted the author, cracking, "Do they have any idea that about half of this show is nonsense? I mean, they just don't get it."

Further, though he personally doesn't believe it, Imus said others have suggested to him he's under investigation by the Journal because the paper regularly "endorses" pharmaceutical companies.

What does this have to do with Imus? Well, he has hinted there may be a link between the thimerosol – a mercury-containing vaccine preservative – and autism.

He wants pharmaceutical companies to be on the hook for damages should a link be found.

The WSJ, which Imus says is "not a disreputable newspaper," could be concerned "about me screaming about indemnifying these pharmaceutical companies against the use of thimerosol in vaccines until we determine if, in fact, there is a link between" the drug and autism, "which – by the way – we don't know whether there is or not."

That will make for some really fun and exciting radio for five years. I'm sure he'll have lots of listeners and Infinity will be well pleased with the results.{/s

Check out the awful horrible conditions in which Imus sweats and suffers in the name of the children:

I know I'd be terrified if a cadaverous cowboy wannabe with a microphone was out for me.

Imus once made a none too kind comment about talk show host Howie Carr's wife on the air. Howie had Alan Dershowitz tear him apart. The matter never made it to the halls of justice - Imus settled out of court. I have no idea how much Howie and Co. were awarded but he makes mention of having had made enough for a ' a new house ' from time to time.

I am sure that I speak for many Imus listeners when I say that the only truly satisfying resolution to this whole issue would be that it turns out that the Architectural Digest-in-the-photo-shoot Hacienda where Imus and Dierdre live was built on the site of an old mercury processing plant.
