Florida Statute 765.101 defines a persistent vegetative state (PVS) as being a permanent and irreversible condition of unconsciousness in which there is: a) The absence of voluntary action or cognitive behavior of any kind, and b) An inability to communicate or interact purposefully with the environment. The opinion that Terri Schiavo’s behavior meets the medical and/or statutory definition of PVS doesn’t take into account that she responds to stimuli, tries to communicate verbally, follows limited commands, laughs and cries in interaction with loved ones, physically distances herself from irritating or painful stimulation and watches loved ones as they move around her. These observations were made by medical professionals and are on record. Further no MRI or PET scans have ever been performed on Terri Schiavo on orders issued by her “husband.”

This, with all dross removed, is why I'm fervently in the camp of those who want to maintain her life. She's NOT in a PVS.

Just of our curiosity, does anyone have the protocols for 1991 ACLS standards? What exactly were her lab values when first tested and what drugs were administered before they labs were drawn. I keep hearing about electrolyte imbalances without reference.

▪ Michael Schiavo has petitioned to have Terri cremated immediately after her death.

Were I the federal judge, I would give Michael Schiavo the following choices.

1. Either keep Teri feed and relinquish "next of kin" to her parents, or
2. Let Teri Schiavo die, but her body would be subject to a full autopsy and Michael Schiavo subject to possible prosecution for manslaughter.

Which one would Michael Schiavo choose?

It would appear that the Florida legal system was lazy and incompetent and now is trying to cover up these facts by killing Terri and thus removing investigation.

Two points to ponder and I`m sure posted before on other threads,but in many states if a child had gone to school or to a doctor with the injuries or under the circumstances that befell Terri both are required by law to notify civil authorities for investigation.As well as for those children living with parents of certain religious beliefs that deny medical treatment.I believe the children are removed from the home and given the care they need in spite of the wishes of their guardians.
