It's no wonder President Bush can't get the American public to rally around his Social Security plan. The Republicans in the Senate can't even get behind him.

It's time for a strong (conservative) third party to surface.

Well any transition would cost a bit of money and it has to come from somewhere
they should suck it up and cut some pork spending instead of increasing SS taxes etc.

I don't think it's all that confusing. The Republican senators want to make sure they are reelected. In trying to capture some of the center-right oriented Democrats they are betraying not only Republican ideology, but the very people (Republican base voters) who elected them.

They hope that the majority of their Republican electorate will not notice their antiques in the Senate (and, sadly, many won't!)

The remedy seems to be straight forward(ish): we need to let know in no ambiguous terms that the opportunists will not be reelected. This is not as easily done as it is said but it definitely is worth the effort.

So the bottom third of wage earners pays a very small Social Security tax, in terms of real dollars. While the middle and upper income earners pay a substantially higher Social Security tax.

Social Security is aptly named because it is a socialization of retirement. What is so hard to understand ? Bush's private accounts are individualizing Social Security.

Further, because Social Security is socialized, the italicized statement has no meaning for individuals because how much you get depends as much on how long you live as well as how much you paid.

Finally, the lower 1/3 usually die off a little earlier on average than the middle and upper class, but retirement accounts should move away from socialism and more towards individualism, just as President Bush has said.

Before you all say its our fault for electing the RINO Republicans, let me say that it is not, I repeat it is not, our fault. Let me explain: we have to vote for who runs, do we not? We could "write in" people, but where would that go? So we are stuck. The lesser of two evils, is the old saying...and we also know that the lesser of two evils, is still, well...... evil. I think that the people who should be there will not run because of the gauntlet that has to be endured. Nobody but a hard nosed politician lusting for power would stand for the anal exam that running for congress or the presidency seems to require

Some of you are like me....we have no representation in Congress. There are not enough people there that, for only lack of balls maybe, will set us free. There are not enough that will do what it takes to close the borders. There are not enough there that will shut down large portions of the government that have proven to be full of waste and do no good and in fact, do harm....like the Dept of education, Dept of Energy, IRS, et al....most of the government IMHO. They don't even have the will to do something about federal judges and 6 reprobates on the supreme court that are bastardizing our system by the day. I bet most of our representatives have never read enough of the Constitution to even find out what they are constitutionally authorized to do. There ought to be a cover sheet on all legislation stating exactly where in the Constitution it is that authorizes the legislation.

This is only a start on my list of lamentations concerning the congress. If they did the right thing, it wouldn't matter who was President....but alas....our only choice is those who decide or are asked or who are coerced to run. It is not my fault that there are RINOs in the congress...and it is not your fault either. Take the last election...I kind of knew what the congress was going to do...most of us here did. We also knew that Pres Bush was at least an honorable man. We also knew that John Kerry was a traitorous lier and a gigolo, and a reprobate, and I for one would never vote for him for dogcatcher.

But I WILL vote,... for I believe that when I do not, I give up my right to complain....even though I am forced to vote for someone who does not represent me, but is closer to my beliefs than the liberal/socalist/communist candidate.

...it used to be that it was Democrats who pulled crap like that.

Now it's the Republicans.

And that leaves a bunch of us with nowhere to go...

Too true.

Oh, yeah, and close the borders!

We have one Redemopublicrat superparty. Both halves waste taxes to keeping themselves in office. Neither half is pro Bill of Rights when it comes to passing new laws. And both halves look to government to solve every problem, no matter how small, and throwing tax dollars at the problem is their solution.

The commies succeeded their goal of fully taking control of the democratz party and made huge leaps in taking control of the republican party, too. The commies that placed these ratz are gone, but their putrid legacy lives on in these scumbags.

Step 1: Fully discredit and destroy the demcrat party to the point of pathetic ridicule. In replacement, establish a 'loyal opposition' based on truth and honesty, those things completely devoid in the democrat party.

Step 2: Nail the repuboratz, shake the nutz from the tree. Let the demonstration of Step 1 be warning enough.

Count me as considering the repuboratz in the senate to be neutered wimps.

And I thought I was the only one totally disgusted with our government/politicians.
I have always said..."Take a good man, elect him, and within 1 yr he becomes a politician."

"If we are the party of small government and individual liberty, why in the heck are the officeholders we elected going in exactly the opposite direction?"

There's your problem right there. The Republicans are not the party of small government and individual liberty. That dream died with Ronald Reagan. The GOP is now a huge government party, with different priorities than the dems. If you want a party pushing for truly limited (Constitutional) government, your only choice is a 3rd party.

I've made the point here many times that Republicans and Republican ideas are winners. So-called Republicans have proved they can win, but they have yet to prove that they can lead: make tough choices, do what's right for the future of the country, and suffer the consequences if necessary - that's political leadership and it ain't happening.

Furthermore, look at the political history of the United States. We can argue about how far back it goes, whether to 1789, Marbury, the Civil War, or the 16th Amendment - take your pick. The point is, we've been on a steady, progressive march toward socialism for a long time. The only difference between the periods in which we've been "led" by Democrats and Republicans is the speed at which we're marching. The end results are essentially the same.

Flame away!

..What is needed is to take ALL THE PERKS AWAY, like the very, very generous (separate from SS/Mil.) retirement pay/(separate from Medicare) medical care/(publicly paid) travel expenses/"limit the gravy train" mindset, limits their maximum terms in (both House/Senate combined) Congressional office/forbid ANY KIND of lobbying...and go back to private life (like 'forefathers' originally intended)

*** IN CASE YOU HAVEN'T HEARD ***

This morning on Rush's program, he started talking about a Boston Globe story which said that Mitch McConnel was not on board with the "nuclear option" - and supposedly Mitch's reason was because he wasn't sure the public was on board with it. Because of that, I went to http://www.congressvote.org and registered my complaint with the McConnell office.

A few minutes later in the program, Rush said that he had received a FAX from McConnel's staff which said that Mitch was on board with the "nuclear option" - and it was the Globe who got the story wrong.

However, the FAX also mentioned that McConnel office had been overwhelmed with phone calls, emails and faxes.

Soooooo .. while the Boston Globe was trying to sew seeds of doubt about the "nuclear option" to the public - their ineptness caused the "public" to react and I guess McConnel's office found out that THE PUBLIC KNOWS A GREAT DEAL ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND WANTS THE REPUBS TO JUST DO IT!!

I'm hoping the word will get around that the public is very aware of what is going on and very much in favor of the "nuclear option".

Thank you Boston Globe - once again your Bush-republican hatred has backfired in your face!!!

"...dramatically reduce the Social Security payout for two-thirds of Americans."

How was Social Security originally presented to the voters?

Was it supposed to be a retirement account that paid out once the person retired? Or was it intended to be a method of covering the less fortunate.

I was always under the impression that it was a retirement account.

If it is a tax, then call it a tax. If it is a retirement account then call it that.
