Rumsfeld Drinks with Fox News, Sen. Thune

Roll Call’s Mary Ann Akers will reveal Thursday that Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld dined earlier this week with Fox News CEO Roger Ailes and Sen. John Thune, the man who took out former Democratic Minority Leader Sen. Tom Daschle, RAW STORY has learned.

The dinner, Akers is set to report, included Rumsfeld, Deputy Secretary of State Robert Zoellick, Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. John Jumper, Fox News CEO Roger Ailes, conservative columnist William Safire and Wall Street Journal editorial page editor Paul Gigot, and their wives.

“Despite incessant rumors of Rumseld’s imminent departure, [Aker’s] source said the secretary was ‘in a great mood, buoyed by recent events in the Middle East, especially in Lebanon.’ The source said Rumsfeld talked at length about the ‘power of people’ in the Middle East.

“There was also talk at the dinner of Thune’s victory over Daschle,” Akers adds. “The Senator thanked Gigot for The Wall Street Journal’s ‘anti-Daschle editorials,’ the source said, adding that Rumsfeld seemed ‘very eager to hear about the race.’”

“Safire asked Thune if he had decided what he wanted his legacy in the Senate to be,” she continues. “Thune noted that he is the first South Dakotan in 50 years to join the Armed Services Committee, and he also mentioned his interest in energy policy. But he joked, ‘I'm still working to make it through each day.’”

The column is titled “Rummy and Cokes.”

I'd love to have dinner with Thune, Ailes, and Rumsfeld.

Not bad, cool. Just some info. Great to see Rumsfeld in a good mood. We need him to stay. I bet those Thune stories about Daschle were great.

Not sure why they even made a news story out of this. Having dinner with friends is not real unusual in most parts of the world.

Liberals will link this dinner to Halliburton and the Carlyle Group somehow or another :-)

What a pathetic bunch the Liberals are

It's great to hear that these people are so happy. Thune is a real conservative, not a RINO, so we should expect big things from him. If Republican leaders and writers still feel like celebrating the great November victory, why not?
Especially given the Administration's accomplishments following the election. Let them eat, drink, and tweak the Demorats.Maybe they were also celebrating Rather's departure as the chief shill for the RATS on TV.

All is well.
Great to see Fox News destroying the lib propaganda. The liberals and media(liberals) no doubt meet every day but it hasn't been working lately has it. Won't work in 2006 I bet either.
