(Oakton, VA) Today, RetireSafe delivered 115,000 petition signatures to Congress calling for an end to the proposed U.S./Mexico Social Security Totalization Agreement.
Social Security is not a welfare program and it should not be turned into a foreign aid program, said RetireSafe President Charles Hardin.
RetireSafe joined with Congressman Virgil Goode (R-VA) and other members of Congress in urging the White House not to present the proposed totalization agreement with Mexico to Congress for approval.
Using our Social Security Trust Fund to reward illegal acts, attract cheap labor, or bail out another nations economy at the expense of American retirees is just plain wrong, continued Hardin.
The agreement with Mexico will allow Mexican citizens who work in the U.S. illegally to earn valuable Social Security credits for breaking the law. It is projected to drain $350 billion from the Social Security Trust fund over the next decade.
Hard-working Americans pay taxes each and every day to support our Social Security system. At a time when Social Security is ill-prepared to keep its promise to Americans, it makes no sense to allow illegal immigrants to reap the benefits, said Hardin.
Is it too much to ask that Social Security benefits be preserved for those who earned them legally? Seniors are tired of these shenanigans coming out of Washington. If the President and Congress are serious about Social Security reform, they will stop this foolish totalization agreement with Mexico, concluded Hardin.
RetireSafe is a grassroots action network representing more than 300,000 seniors nationwide united in the belief that individual ownership and control is the key to retirement security. To find out more about RetireSafe and its activities visit www.RetireSafe.org.
Sadly, yes.
Yes, it is. .....and the vast majority of American citizens agree.
Stop and think of it this way - if the Mexicans who work here were to get Social Security, then when they retire, maybe we could expect them to "go back home" where they could live well.
Another thing Washington politicians do is to steal the Social Security money for pet projects at home. I'll bet Senator Byrd has stolen a ton of money from the elderly over the years. When Algor talked about a lock box - he was right. We need a lock box to keep the thieving politicians hands off our Social Security tax money.
It has been a disgrace for years that we have worked like dogs in America to have something when we retire and now we find that we have to subsidize the entire country of Mexico, just because our President and Congress people are controlled by Mexican lobbyists. The American tax payer has been supplanted by those who come to Washington and subvert our government with money.

The usual idea with these bi-national social security deals is for foreign workers to pay into the host nation's system which then makes a payment to the origin nation's system so that the worker gets credit.
Best bet for the US is to collect here, and credit there. That gives these guys an incentive to "go back home" once they are past their working years.
Frankly, I don't particularly like to take money from even illegals, but SS is set up to do that. Employers who collect SS from their illegals probably ought to be prosecuted and jailed.
