I just listened to Mike Gallagher spend five minutes ripping into bloggers on his radio show. He started out by talking about the Jeff Gannon scandal, calling him a "creepy guy." Gallagher went on the say that it is the "blogging atmosphere" that allowed the Gannon scandal to happen.
He said that bloggers are a bunch of "geeky losers in their basements cranking out crap on a computer" and that blogging provides "power for freak-shows to harass and destroy individuals."
"I am worried about this trend of legitimizing bloggers," Gallagher said.
He then went on to reveal his ignorance of how blogs work by saying that bloggers send out "thousands and thousands" of emails to people whether they like it or not.
Gallagher continued, "I am not enamored with the bloggers... I think it is a breeding ground for a lot of bad, bad things."
Gallagher stated what really bothers him about blogging is that "anybody can do it."
I take it that Mike Gallagher is not much of a free market individualist, nor does he trust the restraining effect of competition in the marketplace. Bloggers must be controlled! Bloggers are dangerous! No Mike - it is people like you who cannot bring themselves to trust average Americans who are dangerous. Be careful, your elitism is showing.
I listen to Mike's show occasionally and one of the things that has bothered me for awhile is his tendency to yell at and belittle his callers. When someone disagrees with him, he just gets louder and more condescending. Bullying is no substitute for an argument.
(Note: this post was cranked out by a self-confessed geek sitting in his basement home-office, from which a small business operates.)

I wonder how Mike Gallagher ever got a nationally syndicated show. IMHO his talent is strictly local level quality.

I think it is a breeding ground for a lot of bad, bad things." Yes, shall we list a few of those bad things? Free expression of ideas you don't like. Challenging the misinformation of the left. Putting dweebs like you out of business. Making you leftist back up your unsupportable statements. Giving us the place to gather and plan anti-left strategy. Making conservatives aware they outnumber you leftists by better than 3 to 1. Giving us a place post our Adobe artwork (using your face). A good place to meet hot conservative chicks. A good place to meet rich conservative guys.

Let's see what this would've sounded like, say, 200 years ago and instead of the internet he was talking about the then current form of mass communication:
"...political writers are a bunch of "geeky losers in their basements cranking out crap on a printing press"
"the printing press provides "power for freak-shows to harass and destroy individuals."
"I am worried about this trend of legitimizing the printing press," Gallagher said.
"Gallagher stated what really bothers him about the printing press is that "anybody can do it."
What should really bother people is the way some wish to delegitimize any form of free speech.

You do realize there is a huge leftwing blogosphere out there. There are also anarchists and conspiracy blogs as well. He may be talking about them. If you look at everything on an even plane, everyone thinks their ideology is the correct one so who can say that the bloggers on any side are spreading the truth. Lefty blogs I read spread the truth as they know it and the conspiracy sites do the same thing. Blogs are nothing new, they are just prominent now. They do give everyone a voice and that is good. I wonder when some of them will become as arrogant as the MSM. Probably when someone really powerful sponsors one.

Is he a lefty?
That would explain his hatred for Blogs.
The truth comes out of blogging, because the whole world 'vetts' everything claimed by the Legacy Media.
Liberals hate truth.

Putting dweebs like you out of business.
Gallagher is no lefty, but this is the reason he hates bloggers. Bill O'Reilly has been ranting about the Internet for a long time, calling for regulation because it is so "out of control." What bloggers represent is a threat to these (primarily) radio shouters who have had a monopoly for the past decade or so and have made millions of dollars. These guys, and that includes Rush Limbaugh, will have to figure out a way to evolve or they will become completely irrelevent within just a few years.

Actually, I think Mike is a Libertarian.
His rants remind me of some of the DUmmie FUnnie threads PJ-Comix has here on FR.
I had to quit listening to him. Too many times, he repeats, repeats and repeats himself.
