I am a Christian who believes Terri should be allowed to die... Am I the only one?

First, let me say I am a Christian, and am anti-abortion. I have read quite a bit about the Terri Schiavo case and my heart goes out to her and her family, and yes, even her husband.

I'm quite sure I will take a lot of flak for this opinion, as everyone here seems determined to keep this poor woman alive.

It seems no one is sure whether or not she is in a persistive vegetative state, and doctors on both sides are firm in their convictions.

I only know that if it was me, I would, without a doubt, NOT want to be kept alive this way. Terri doesn't have the capability to state what she wants, but had she been if asked the question when she was healthy, (as her husband states) most likely, she would not want these ongoing court battles, the media circus and the heartbreak for all involved. Really, would any of us want that for our families?

I believe in letting her die with dignity. I do not believe it is murder. I have made sure to tell my family members, if this ever happens to me, do not keep me alive in this state.

May God's will be done.

From http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/1350777/posts?page=1 , Teri's priest, Fr. Frank: " I was in to see her twice. I saw her once in September and I saw her once just a couple of weeks ago. And she communicated. She's alert. We prayed. She follows everything that's happening in the room with her eyes, turning her head, smiling. She- When I was in there with her parents, her dad leaned over to kiss her, and she made the motion to kiss him back... She's not able as I said, to articulate her words, but she attempts to speak. And if she HAD the benefit of some physical therapy and some speech therapy, she would be in a lot BETTER condition, but guess what? She has been DENIED that treatment. She has been denied that simple physical and speech therapy, by the same person who wants her to be starved. I told her, when I visited with her, and laid hands on her and prayed with her, that she has a lot of friends around the country. That she has a lot of people who know about her, and love her, that's you. And she KNOWS that."

I would like to know if you think Fr. Frank is totally mistaken in what he sees and reports.

I've carefully read every post. You consistently and conveniently ignore the facts that have been presented.

This obviously cannot be - Or you would have never asked me the question you did in your first reply to me ( because that was already answered in several of my other posts).

What facts have I ignored in this case? In fact, I am the one who openly asked to hear about the total facts in this awful situation. You obviously have not read all the posts within this thread (and certainly not mine) therefore you threw together some generic type response like yours above - Very odd.

Terri's not the only one

n February of 1985, I woke up in a hospital bed in Boston, MA. I couldn't see very well and I couldn't move much -- but boy could I ever hear!

I heard a terrifying discussion then that I will never, ever forget.

Around the end of my bed were a "school" of doctors in their white coats, planning when to disconnect my ventilator and feeding tube. I immediately started screaming, "I'm here!!" No one but me heard me.

They did notice my sudden agitation. They heavily sedated me. For a time, everytime I woke up I would make as much noise and move as a much as I could to show them I was "in there."

And they would, in response, heavily sedate me...

I then started spelling the same word in the air, "Don't! Don't! Don't!...."

The doctors decided that the letters I was spelling in the air were repetitive seizure activity and just happened to occur most often when they were in my room discussing killing me...

would deny Terri the right to die, but have no problem enforcing the death penalty, even though it has been shown that innocent people are put to death.

Excuse me but... HUH?

Since when has Terri expressed her wish to die?

But from what I have followed of it, I have never heard this -

http://www.earnedmedia.org/tf0211.htm Evidence of Physical Abuse Haunts Michael Schiavo Also posted here: http://freerepublic.com/focus/news/1341036/posts

I also heard her brother on the air this morning talking about it. You haven't heard of it because the courts have ignored the evidence.

Do you not realize we live in a society obsessed with granting the right to kill (NOT the right to die, as they say). ???

Hi,
Wanted to drop in some comments. We have been looking at this thread in our high school Sunday School class. Our class is currently doing a Christian Worldview study, and how everyone's worldview, whatever it is, effects every area of your life.

It would be very easy to get caught up and thoroughly twisted in all of the feedback you have received since you dropped your opening statement, "you are a Christian and you think Terri should be allowed the right to die."

You, along with every human being who has ever existed, is given free will by God to agree with His will or to go against His will.

The Word of God states in Genesis 1:27 That we are created in His image.
Psalm 139:13-16 tells us that we are wonderfully and fearfully created. That God alone knows the reasons we were created and that He knows the number of our days.

I believe God is all knowing so if Terri's life is cut short because man decides she is no longer worth our time and effort God is not surprised at that outcome. But God knowing the outcome is not the same as God causing or agreeing with the outcome. God knows every child who has been or who will be aborted, He knows about every person who will be murdered, or who commits suicide or who will be euthanized. That being said God is also all powerful and if He chooses to intervene in a situation He can.

You are the one who said you are a Christian so my comments to you are directed Christian to Christian. Jesus tells us that if we love Him (i.e. we are a Christian) that we will obey His commands. What is the greatest commandments?
1) Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind and strength and 2) love your neighbor as yourself.

We can not make decisions as a Christian based on what "we feel". We are a fallen sinful race of people who can only rightfully discern anything by God's grace. Thankfully He has given us His Word. His Word is to be a light onto our path and it is to show us His perfect will for each of our lives.

This could go on and on but I want to end this by saying we all need to seek God for His will. I personally would be in great anguish if Terri were my daughter or my wife and I can not begin to speak of the heartache that has to be occurring. That being said we must allow the Potter to do what He wills with the clay.
Dear LORD, Thy will be done, grant us your wisdom.

p.s. I wish to apologize for all of the stupid comments made in regard to your original post. I believe with all my heart that you are wrong but that gives no right for anyone to attack. Anyone else who is reading this post who has done that and believes themselves to be a Christian had better spend a little time with the LORD and repent of that sin.
Terri is still alive as of this morning and God can still do a miracle. Pray for His glory to be seen somewhere in this whole messy ordeal.
