The New York Times and the Associated Press, (two news agencies whose work in Andean Latin America is suspiciously similar) are at it again. They say that since our ally Colombia is fighting a terrorist war on a heated battlefield, the sky must be falling.
They seize on Colombia's recent battlefield losses, as well as local complaints, as proof the nation is overwhelmed, the terror war is lost, and its president doesn't know what he's doing. As far as they are concerned, Colombia might as well surrender to the communists.
And their gloating subtext? Another Bush defeat.
In the U.S., we've seen this movie before. It's gotten pretty conventional, and the plot, as written by the Times, the AP or anyone else who imagines he's the world is always the same:

The New York Times tries to slime Colombia, our brave ally in the war on terror. It's time to call them on their disgusting little game aimed ultimately at Bush.
=======
The socialist mainline journal, the NYT will foreever be trying to slime AMERICA, not just Bush. It is the socialist agenda. And expect it to get worse before the REAL AMERICANS get tough with the socialists/communists in this country.
My roommate is from Colombia. I've talked with him many times about the situation there. This has been going on for many years, and thousands are killed each year. A good friend of his lost both of her parents to the insurgency. The guerillas demanded her father pay a tithe (though it was more like 25%), and he refused, basically told them "F.U.", and a few days later he looked outside to see his barn burning. As he stepped out of his door, he was filled with lead. Three years later (last year), the guerillas came back demanding money from the mother. She told them to go to Hell, you killed my husband. Shot her in front of her four children.
The situation over there is very serious. The populace of Colombia is largely against the insurgency, which is largely funded by blackmail, ransom, and cocaine money. I applaud Bush for his steps in the counter-insurgency.
This is the absolute reality of Colombia, thanks for posting this. It needs to be better known. These communist thugs are absolute animals and can only be put down.
How'd you like to be President Uribe - who's endured over 100 assassination attempts from these scumbags? They are still trying. Thank God President Bush is right there behind him.
I totally agree with you. My roommate is no great fan of Bush's, but he does recognize his efforts in countering the insurgency as well as opening up the Colombian market.
God Bless President Uribe and President Bush. And may He have mercy on the souls of the coward commies holding the country back.
President Uribe is going to go down as one of the greatest leaders Latin America has ever seen. I can't stop marvelling at him, he truly has the elements of greatness.
ping!
I agree.
Sen. Christoper Dodd and his ilk like to kiss Castro's feet, pat Chavez on the back and spit on Colombian President Uribe .
Did you see that disgusting letter the slimey Dodd sent to President Uribe? He tried to tell him how to run his country! Can you imagine him doing that to his hero, Hugo Chavez or his little buddy, Daniel Ortega? Of course not. Dodd just thinks he can order democratically elected presidents around while worshipping the dictators. He makes me sick.
