Bttt
Just epic!
Beautiful.
Thanks for the pics and the ping.
The best welcome home I ever had was coming back from Desert Storm. Grandstands were set up for our families at a drop zone and we jumped in. Parachuting in in full view of our loved ones. Never did I feel so proud as on that day.
Also the reception my daughter got when she arrived home from Brooke Army Medical Center after being wounded in Iraq made me break down. Her yellow ribbon on the "Home Coming Tree" in front of our courthouse had been replaced with a red one. There was a big crowd and tons of cheers and applause when she removed her ribbon.
The "Homecoming Tree" is a custom that was started in 1990 with Desert Sheild/Storm. A yellow ribbon is put up for every local serviceman serving in a combat theater. When the soldier/airman/sailor/Marine returns there is a ceremony and he removes his ribbon. Mine was one of the first to go up. It was also the only yellow ribbon on that tree when I went to Somalia and it was replaced with a red one when I was wounded. Kind of ironic that my daughter and me have been the only ones to ever have a red ribbon there. Should a soldier die, his yellow ribbon is replaced by a white one. Lance Corporal Shane Folmar has been the only local troop to ever have a white ribbon there. He died last summer.
Thank you, Sir.
"Welcome Home!"

Thanks for the ping!
Very cool. This is the way they should all be welcomed home.
