If you can believe an article by Ronald Brownstein in today's Los Angeles Times, the Democratic Party is the party of Rip Van Winkle, which has just now awoke from a coma to find themselves on the outside looking in. Apparently losing the House and Senate for 10 years, and the last two presidential elections, was not enough to shake them into reality. But now, with George Bush not following historical precedent and instead launching the most ambitious second-term in memory, they are wide awake and desperate, and desperate people do desperate things...

I really wish the entire universe would stop giving the 'rat party helpful hints at how to fool the American people into regaining power. After all, the Ward Churchill phony baloney of American politics, John Kerry, came with 3 percent of winning the vote.

I don't think helpful hints would make a difference. We were loud and clear, for example, that nothing would be better for the GOP than to have Howard Dean as DNC chairman (except maybe keeping McAuliffe). They went ahead and did it anyway.

I think what we are watching is an entire party going through a cycle of self-destruction so overwhelming that it simply cannot stop itself from leaping over a cliff, even if fully aware of what it is doing. They have systematically eliminated all other possible options and left themselves no future course other than party suicide.

BTW, this was a real find, an excellent post. I found all of the articles on this blog well reasoned and clever.

3% = 12,000,000 (12 million) votes

Yeah, that was a squeaker of an election.

Actually didn't Kerry come within a few tens of thousands of votes in Ohio, and the election?

Bush won Ohio by 110,000 votes.

Even after the dems forced a recount.
