I decided to listen to 990 AM Texas Talk Radio this morning, just to see what it was like.
Long time talk radio host Kevin McCarthy has his current show on that station.
It seems he called into the station's morning show and stated that during his show he would state who he thinks 'Deep Throat' was.
He thinks it is possible that Chief Justice Rehnquist is Deep Throat.
This was brought on by recent reports that Bob Woodward would soon reveal Deep Throat since it is suspected that Deep Throat was in very poor health and Woodward is set to write his obit.
In the past, McCarthy was amongst others who had the theory that it was Bush 41 who was Woodward's source. Reports that Deep Throat is near death, along with Bush 41's strong health, puts that theory to rest.
It's highly possible that there is NO Deep Throat and Woodward just used the "unnamed source" bit to cover for stuff that he may have made up and he got lucky that a part of the W&B writings led to end result.
Woodward could have just ran a list of Nixon DOJ names and decided that when one of them dies, he'll just claim that person as Deep Throat....against no defense.
Sounds like Woodward's M-O.
Remember CIA boss William Casey deathbed confession to Woodward?
It was a bombshell until, Woodward was asked to sketch out Casey's hotel room.
Woodward couldn't do it.

FWIW -- I believe Woodward made up the whole thing.
I've been saying that for years... there is no Deep Throat. Woodward made some inferences based on some facts he had, but he knew the WaPo wouldn't publish his article based on inferences. So he made up this character, and suddenly his "inferences" became "inside information", and the story got published.
Well, according to your theory, old Bob must have been clairvoyant, because his so-called "made up" information certainly proved to be true.
Why is it, after all this time, after all the admissions of guilt by the thuggy principals who were in the White House at the time, after so many adminstration people went to jail, after listening to Nixon's own profane words on the tapes, why is it that people still want to blame the messenger, look for conspiracies, deny the shame and dishonor of that adminstration?
Nixon and his arrogant, vengeful cohorts let the Republican party down more than anyone else. I look at the mess he caused and am offended. We should just admit it and quit defending the guy.

My guess is that the WaPo knew there was no Deep Throat.
That whole little group of theirs, WaPo, NY Times, Boston Globe.....have a real problem with the truth.
Well, actually it would only be a problem for them if they let the truth get in the way of their stories....which they don't.
I hate Bill Clinton for the lying and criminality that characterized his administration. Nixon was equally bad, and terrible for the party. I'm not going to give Nixon a pass just because he was ostensibly on my side. It wouldn't suprise me if someone in his administration turned on that "evil old man" as x41 called him.
As for Woodward, if there is no Deep Throat then he should start working for the psychic friends network. The accuracy of his "guesswork" is phenomenal.
Actually, a lot of stuff dt said was way off the mark. He was even talking about assasinations.
Why are you guys ignoring Carl Bernstein's role? It is not just Woodward alone who knows who Deep Throat is.
Perhaps you missed where I wrote W&B in the 1st reply on this thread.
No - I am asking in general why Woodward is always the focus on FreeRepublic but not Bernstein - From the posts he seems to be hated and is called a liar.
