What is strangest in this whole episode is how far, how fast, Martin Frost has fallen.. few years ago.he was a senior Dem in the House..repsected in the caucus...viewed as a centrist by his peers. When Gephardt was deposed, he ran against Pelosi.lost badly..he could not get any support from the Black Caucus..and she refused him a position in the leadership...They he was redistricted out of his seat, though I do admire him for fighting the campaign, as opposed to retiring..like many of the other Texas dems did..Frost stood his ground, and lost..so, he runs for the DNC chair..he's eminentlymqualified, and in the post-mortems of 2004, the party is supposedly looking to redirect itself towrds the red states, flyover country..a new iage..and lookie here..not that Dean wins..but that little ole Donnie Fowler get 10 time the votes that Frost gets. That is bizarre..and that is why the Dem party is kaput..

So the Democrats found a way to put him in what the Japanese refer to as an "office by the river." One with a pretty view and an attractive secretary, but no legitimate professional responsibility. Howard Brush Dean now heads up the DNC.

His RNC counterpart was quick to congratulate him on his new promotion.

I think the rational wing of the party (that very small portion, more like a tail) rolled over to get this extremism out of the way before the next Presidential Election cycle. If the Dems lose seats in 2006, Dean will be flushed and they can then attempt to recover to the center after trying it the left wing's way. It will also open the door for a "party saviour". The alternative would have been bitter party infighting and a possible split of the party.

I also keep reminding myself that Dean will be replacing Terry McCauliff, so it might not be as big a disaster as my mind might think.
