Well, Greg . . . maybe "heartless" isn't the proper word.

I think he left some marks from those hits. May be they will feel the in the morning and apologize for being stupid. Nope not a chance.

Thank you! I agree with you TOTALLY. I am so sick and tired of having the rest of the world expecting me to apologize for being an American. If they don't like us, they can pound sand. (In my humble opinion.)

Almost but you forget something, or just didnt think of it.
Technology wouldn't save any infrastructure of an event this magnitude.
This was not a Storm surge of 12 feet that came in over days, with several feet of rain, this was a wall of water 20 feet high that was going to come before you have lunch.
Even if we warned people here in the US, we would have lost thousands to an event this great because people would not be able to evacuate in time, even with a 3 hour warning.
This was genuinely an even of Biblical proportions, and no warnings given could have saved more than 10% of those who died given the event and the circumstances of geography.
Indonesia had no warning at all, and they would only have 5 minutes warning if that.
A Wall of water swallowed their island, and any car or boat would be sunk.
Technology would have only saved India...maybe...

I feel it's high time that we tell the rest of the world to go to hell.A historically proven bad idea, as far as the U.S. is concerned. In the end, it will go to hell, and then we have to drag it back out.

yup.......I agree with most but sometimes you just have to step up and be the bigger person and do it cause it is the right thing to do. All those others can be jealous and hateful cause they are not US.....but in our hearts we know we are doing God's work.........let their childish comments go to the side, especially the French who feel the need to bid up the price. You will never ever get thru to them and they have a cultural hatred that is almost innate......we will previal.......*sigh*, as usual
To: CHARLITE
You raise many valid points, but your timing is a bit off.
Sit down with a piece of paper with the figure "100,000" written on it and don't get up until you start to weep.

Sadly they don't even have POST emergency or contingency planning...these poor people just haven't had enough real disaster experiences to build upon...like Japan has and the USA...the only real way to deal with future disasters is to build upon previous experince...unfortunately they were deliver a extremely horrific event to learn from.

Actually, about a week or more ago, there was a report on Drudge about massive tectonic activity near Antarctica. (I believe there may have even been a 8 point something earthquake already) It may have been as early as Wednesday. It also mentioned the effects would be felt as far away as India. Sounds like plenty of advance warning to me.
Those governments were taking naps on this one.

it will go to hell, and then we have to drag it back out... --because the standard we live by is different than that of others.
Only an idiot would think that helping others would somehow win international recognition and thanks. Only an amoral pig would refuse to do the right thing if he thought he might not win an appropriate reward. Americans really are different.
To: CHARLITE
I only wish the US government would put it's relief money into a fund for American firms to quickly bid for and provide goods and services (must use American workers/content, too, like USEXIM requires). And maybe set up a "double your write-off" 1 year tax benefit for any US company donating goods and services to the relief. We shouldn't give a dime of cash to the U.N. or any other N.G.O. where a significant portion of it will be wasted or stolen.

I agree with Greg.
As I recall, no one asked the President if we needed any help with the disasters in Florida, earthquakes in San Francisco or anything other than 9/11/01. We got help from NATO patrolling our skies I believe on 9/11. But I think that might be it.......
