Why is the Democratic Underground scared of debate?
Posted on 12/23/2004 7:00:55 AM PST by RightAmerican
I was banned from the Democratic Underground without making any offensive remarks. Infact, I tried as hard as I could to be PC so they wouldn't ban me but only 2 posts and 5 minutes after registering, I was banned. The funny thing is, is that one of the members actually responded to me wanting to debate me but the mods wouldn't let me debate! Even though one of the members there wanted to!

I got banned there once for having "WTH" in the title of my post.
Several people responded to me with F#CK YOU, YOU FACIST SON OF A B#TCH, etc.
They did not get banned.

I see dissenting opinions around here all the time. That's what FR is all about, and that's why I like it so much. Who wants to argue with someone they agree with all the time? :-)
I've seen the evil mods ban those who have been banned previously under different names, or those who post racist, filthy comments, or even those who post inflammatory statements without sticking around to back up those opinions. The mods have much more visibility over that stuff than Joe or Jill FReeper.

Well if Republicans didn't get an education than Liberals are just as dumb because they both go to the government schools that were setup and screwed up by DEMOCRATS!

More like non-Republicans as evidenced by the banning that went on during the run-up to the election.
Still, no place that I'd rather be than Freepland

No more intolerant than we are when we ban trolls. That is the one thing that irks me about FR. Respectfully, there is a difference. One can dissent here as long as one does so respectfully or semi-respectfully.
I was banned at DU for (correctly) pointing out that McDonalds (the fast-food chain) was NOT a "limited liability corporation" (LLC). Another time I was banned for (correctly) pointing out that seven of the USSC thought there was an Equal Protection violation in the Bush v. Gore fiasco. The third time I was banned (months later) was for taking the position that people should take responsibility for their obesity, i.e., eat better and exercise more, rathwer than to turn to the courts.
Three times a charm for me. The DU mods are keen at spotting sanity and promptly removing such influences.
Oh, I one-time registered as "Wi11 Pitt" and had fun with the monkeys. It took Will Pitt himself to blow my cover as no one at DU noticed the "1" substitution for lower-case "L" or noticed that I had but a few dozen posts. My insane ranting gloom-and-doom posts were immediately absorbed as fact by the DU lemmings.

You know, at first glance, it would be easy to say their are socially and mentally retarded.
However, that would be unfair
At least special students smile and are happy most of the time.

I think everyone is trying to convey the same basic point, i.e. there are certain rules and regulations that must be adhered to in almost every type of forum.
For some, e.g. FreeRepublic, there is closer scrutiny applied by the moderators, while for others-Protest Warrior-there is less (pronounced) monitoring.
Both systems have their advantages and disadvantages.
I'm sure that there are places where even people like "Grounded11" will be welcomed with open arms and general adulation.
