...But lose one full track and you are sitting duck in the middle of a battle.

Modern tanks need 4 half-tracks, EXCELLENT IDEA, south. they could be articulated like the old tucker sno-cat and it would increase road speed (less rotating weight, track stretch) articulation, rough terrain crossing ability, approach and departure angles. 1 and sometimes 2-hit survivability
