24.11.04 | Or the kind of thing that you will be allowed to see on Venezuelan TV once the gag law passes. President Chavez by now must have ended his state visit in Spain. I am not too sure how good that visit was for Spain as it left quite a wake there. But I am sure that the inner trouble maker in Chavez must feel quite satisfied. All in all, at least on political grounds, Chavez had scored a few points, on domestic or foreign matters. At what price? Too early to say.

The big news was the political scandal that erupted in Spain. Foreign minister Moratinos declared on a TV show that former premier Aznar actively supported the 2002 April coup. This alleged intervention is far from being proved, but Chavez knows an opportunity when he sees one and he could not resist marking a few points at the expense of the Spanish political establishment. Getting out of some meeting he declared that the involvement of Aznar government was indeed true, but he added, very magnanimously, that it was a turned page now. Yeah, right...

The thug of Caracas went to Spain and left a trail of destruction. Even Zapatero ultimately had to put him at arm's distance. Can you imagine being a paid-up member of Old Europe, right there at France's knee, and a third-world thug from one of the old colonies with a lot of money and vulgar as they come shows up to gain some respectability? It would have to leave an impression. The Spanish newspapers, by the way, are enraged.

This is pure discrimination in rags. Third World thug? Spain (old Europe) at France's knee? Too much of Black Legend propagandist, these days people elect their presidents in most countries. Irrelevant.

Don't be silly. The Black Legend was English-generated and against Spain. Pointing out that Spain is now France's colony, just as surely as Venezuela is Castro's colony is just a statement of fact. They may have elected the little bug-eyed slimebucket but he turned his country's sovereignty straight over to France. It's disgusting.

Hola, Kitten.

The Black Legend was not generated in England... It was generated by the Flamish in the Netherlands, later propagated by Germany and what with France and England: All hating Spain, the black sheep, the inferior because she was ‘impure’ mixed 800 years with moros and jewish. Chávez is highly leyendista, and I am the total opposite. I don’t subject my Hispanic identity to Spain being evil or not, if other I embrace Spain. Chávez doesn’t. The whole planet has been going on for too long hating Spain, this is stupid from us Latin Americans who are genuinely Hispanic... En fin. Sorry about the rants. But Chávez toppling Columbus’ statue in Caracas two years ago shrunk my heart just like when USA invaded Iraq.
