My biggest problem is the "their/thier" misspelling.
They're is that better?

There there. When it comes to spelling errors, they're theirs, not yours. :)

Yes, subtle and nuanced as those differences are.

"It's" and "its" would be a good lession. The other day, I think someone posted an article and he (or she) misspelled "it's" in the headline. It's not that difficult to do this right!
However, maybe I am something of a language purist. I even use "whom" instead of "who" when appropriate.

I have to admit, this bothers me also. I'm a very fast typist, though, and when I'm very tired, and my fingers go faster than my brain, I've been known to make these mistakes myself. So, I try to go easy on everyone else.
To: Koblenz
Yes, it's about time someone mentioned that too! Then we can cover "two", "to" and "too."

I can handle the there/their/they're and its/it's mistakes, but it really grinds on me to see something like, "DUmmies are Loosers!!!!!". Somehow I automatically question the author's authority when I see that.

Two words which confuse me are the uses of "that" and "which". I know the most glaring mistakes using those words, but the subtle uses -- ???
For instance, should I have said, "Two words that confuse me ..." or "Two words which confuse me ... "
To: TChris
This one drives me nuts! I hear more and more people use the non-existent word incidences. It's NOT a word people! It's incidents, NOT incidences!
Thank you.

I was looking at a very elegant, very professional web site that sells very expensive hot tubs last night. I must have found eight or ten examples of the misuse of the words "there, their, and they're." I'm amazed that someone hasn't proofread that site and corrected the mistakes.
