I visited DU for just about the very first time right after the "missing explosives" story hit the NYT and then the web.
They were all up at arms about how Bush had endangered the troops by not protecting the ammo dumps (after all even Kerry said it!!) and they (troops) were going to be SO MAD! Their blood was on Bush's hands!
They were shaking the story around like some stupid fig leaf "for the troops." This is the same website, among others, that think the 4 contractors who were massacred in Fallujah in April "deserved it", as "mercenaries."
They have no love "for the troops", never have anymore than their appointed icon Michael Moore does.
That's probably the sickest thing I've ever read. You think he might have a change of heart if it were his head under the machete?
Let them speak. Then one day, after the troops come home, let's see what happens when one of them says some of this stuff to the face of a marine who participated in the liberation of Iraq.
All you have to do to shut these people up is the following:
1. Ask them if they've ever been in the military. When they so no, explain to them that the US military does far more good than destruction. Use Somalia and Bosnia as examples. These actions were when Bill Clinton was in office so they'll say that was the proper use of the military.
2. Explain to them that the same marines, saliors and soldiers who are fighting in Iraq did those missions under Bill Clinton.
3. Break down the structure of the military and the fact that it's under civilian control and that we're not a third world country because our guys follow orders.
4. Ask them if they care about death and destruction so much why they haven't protested before. If they have a mock "memorial" ask them why they didn't do it before if they care so deeply about our guys.
5. They'll be confused by logic now, and probably screaming and insulting you. Try to get a violent reaction.
6. Work the body, then go to the head. (Just kidding)
There are no such words as "sedition" or "treason."
I served two tours in Vietnam. The second tour ended in wounds serious enough to make walking difficult for many months. I was met by a crowd that were the predcessors to the DU nutts and subjected to spitting, verbal abuse, and even a thrown punch.
Today I am the father of two Marines in Iraq with the equal amounts of pride and fear that brings. One of them is this minute in Fallujah.
I refuse to allow myself to dwell on people like the DU crowd. They pretend that the election isn't over, develop make believe theories on why the election didn't go their way while offering no alternatives or ideas of their own.
Freedom is worth defending whether it makes the DU happy or not. And thats all there is to say about that.
My God. These are our countrymen and women? They are encouraging Iranians to kill my husband and I'm supposed to reach out to them and make peace? Well, they can forget it. They are the enemy. They are no different from the Islamofascists. Actually, they are worse.
Media Schadenfreude and Media Shenanigans PING
John Edwards wife admitted on C-Span a few weeks ago that she visits DU. Sounds like she's right at home there.

That's just funny.
