Hello DU,
Chris Heinz here, newly minted casualty of the Bush economic plan. Like many of you, I put my life aside to fight for this campaign, and to fight for a man I deeply care about, my stepfather John Kerry. I am proud of the man, and of our campaigns work. I am proud of my mother and my family, and the Edwards family (my thoughts are with you Elizabeth). Every day I traveled this country, I was also humbled, truly humbled, by the fact that I would meet volunteers and activists who were putting all of their excess energy and hope into this process and the man, despite arguably fewer incentives than those in my immediate life.
Like many of you, I do not think anger is my current dominant feeling, though it is present. Nor is it exhaustion, as I would have guessed a week ago as we campaigned 24/7. Rather, I feel sad and confused. I feel sad because I believe this country made a grave error in judgement on tuesday. And I feel confused because I dont feel the same closeness for my country, but was raised a patriot and by default want to love all of it.
So here we are. We move forward. Each of us will have to look inside ourselves about whether to heed this call for national unity. In my opinion, we owe our neighbors, democrats and republican, the same basic honor we did before November 2. But as for this adminstration, I think I feel the same way as most on this board: I dont owe George W. Bush shit. He does not get a clean slate from me. He has ruled this country for four years by focusing on what makes us different and it is unforgivable. History will make this clear.
In the meantime, thanks DU for your passion. And last night, for your courage. The "my name is" thread was perhaps the most powerful, courageous and cathartic I have ever seen.
Good night,
Chris Heinz
Yep.
What a joke. I was over at DU reading what they ahve to say and so many of their post were about how this is another 2000 and are trying to find fault in any coune, one even saying that the votes for Bush in Florida were really for Kerry. What stupidity. They can't accept that Bush won!!! They are vowing revenge and want to steal this election. Get over it, such losers!
A great error in judgement? Presumptuous? yes. Why would a normal person of any age insult 50+ million fellow citizens? Every election has a winner and a loser. That's not unusual. And it is seldom a matter of a mistake in judgement but rather a matter of a preference. No negative qualities need to be implied.
It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

It's him. He's proud of hanging out there
All the Pittsburgh papers were filled with articles about Heinz wanting to run for congress last spring. He chose to take on Melissa Hart, a Republican in a 2-1 Democrat district. After doing some polling, he decided not to try to horn in on the guy who had already won the Democrat primary because he discovered he would not be coronated just because his last name was Heinz. Said he would wait until next election cycle (and look for easier pickings, no doubt.) Just might be a good idea to buy some property where you plan to run so you can pretend to live there too.
Like mother, like son, no class.
Well, at least he seems to have stopped blaming the Jews and Israel...
Nine white raisins obviously is a family cure-all
Dear Chrissie,
I voted against your stepdad, but it wasn't because I didn't like him. I actually admire your stepdad greatly--I think he's a great American, a Patriot, a true war hero, and would have made a great President of the United States.
No, I voted against your stepdad because I didn't want our First Lady to have to shave her ass and be trained to walk backwards so she'd be presentable to domestic and foreign dignitaries. I know this sounds harsh, but if you think about you'll thank me in the end for helping you dodge a bullet.
Yer Buddy,

I thought the "my name thread" http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x2587059 was pretty amazing...amazingly stoopid! Not only did they sound like members at a 12-step meeting...they posted their personal info on DU. I swear they think they have their own little 'internet haven!'
I get a feeling were are going to hear this for a long, long time. These people are faultless in their on mind.
I, I, I, I feel, I, I, I feel, I feel....blah, blah,
I care.
